You could export your character in the remake also.
Anyway, I liked them both the same. They both have their good points.

I dunno, I think dying everytime your character runs out of stamina sorta cancels out any good points it had.

Sure. All you do is pump about 40 of your fifty start points into Vitality at the beginning, and you don't have too much to worry about.

I liked HQ, and here's why.

Way back when, I had a nightmare of a Kobold Wizard living in my basement.
I used to think Baba Yaga lived inside my wall.
I believed that if you didn't run up the stairs, the troll living in the laundry room would get you.
I loved watching dad pound on the up arrow key until his finger bled. And STILL lose to the trolls.  laugh
I loved hearing uncle Martin recite that 'house of brown, now sit down' speech.
I hate playing with mouses because I can never click right where I need to, and end up dying often as a result.
I loved the very first time I saw my 8 year old cousin beat the game.
I hate MoSlo and like software. With a furious passion.
All a man needs are the 16 colors you get in a 16 pack of crayons. That and ducktape.

HQ meant a lot to me. Sure, they renamed it and rereleased it as QFG later still EGA and all... But it just wasn't the same. There was no high-speed-hero. There was no freezing your character if you fired a flame dart poorly, no oops error if you killed a mantray with a dagger.

Fending off beasts with your bare hands, casting calm in combat, sleeping in the forest 'neath the trees, falling into a bottomless pit, having the giant bird-hut crush you. Sigh, what wonderful ways there were to die in the original that I have yet to pull off in the 256 color version.

I like them both, but only because of the order I played in.
I playe HQ first because I wanted to start at the VERY beginning (and I grew up with EGA-graphics style KQ), so I played and eventually beat it and life was glorious.
Except I didn't manage to get full points. And the reason for that was simple.
I didn't talk to everyone about everthing I could have.
That's where QFG came in. It was much easier to talk to everyone and figure out what to say. I also found it was far easier to beat the game with that interface, instead of having to guess what the designer intended.
Then I went back and beat HQ and got maximum points.
So yeah, I call it a tie: both were fun. HQ had more craziness and nostalgia. And QFG was just plain easier.

I now have a new reason to love the QFG/HQ series: I now have a new GF. She only plays two series of games: KQ and QFG. And she hasn't yet beaten the latter. I'm helping her do that now. Which means QFG is acutally IMPROVING my relationship with my GF. blink

So tell me, if I placed the game disc on a lepper's forehead, would he spontaneously heal and begin to dance for me? And if so, would it me good enough for a Broadway Musical?
