Just wondering by the time this game comes out there could be the new windows Longhorn.
Will you update or make a patch for people that have windows Longhorn.

I thought Microsoft pulled back Longhorn and decided to work on Windows Vista.

Ahem... I see that our fellow Silverbolt is a little... ahem... backdated in his source of information.

Well, Vista is the official name for Longhorn which will only be released in July 2006. Unfortunately, short of conspiring to lift a copy of Longhorn off Microsoft, I doubt we'd be able to ensure compability with Longhorn by the time it is commercially released. However, I will take note of this and add it onto the burgeoning list of bug reports and suggestions.

Will Windows XP apps need patches to run properly on Vista?

Some will be able to patch.  Most will have to make new versions compatible with Vista.

No backwards compatibility? That doesn't sound like such a good idea. Of course maybe it won't matter at all. It depends on whether the average end user is capable of setting up a Vista + XP dual boot, or whether new computers come with a Vista + XP dual boot installed.
