Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on January 15, 2005, 04:18:13 AM Quote *(Following the Blizzard definition of a Banshee, which is a female Undead Elf) I think the term banshee generally refers to a tortured spirit with a keening voice that drives men mad.not far off from the warcraft version. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 15, 2005, 04:24:33 AM But generic Banshees aren't always female undead elves, are they?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 15, 2005, 05:52:12 AM True. They're just female evil thingys.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 15, 2005, 04:20:41 PM eh, what's Tomi doing popping up?
Banshee's are harolds of death from Irish mythology. They traditionally were old ladies who screached really loudy (think Peter Jackson's Nazgul but worse). If you heard one it meant you would die really soon. They didn't kill anybody, but somebody (probably D&D) thought it would be fun to add them to a monsters list, so now we have a type of monster orginally was a none agressive type of creature. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 15, 2005, 04:29:06 PM Quote eh, what's Tomi doing popping up? Didn't you hear? Jafar and Tomi quested together for a while when he saved Neverwinter. He gave Tomi the boot for Linu though. :P-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2nd post) Nice job, Swift. :D Brings back memories of that prequel... How they first met. (Un?)Fortunately, some of the meaner comments about each other weren't heard by the other. :P Quote Tomi: Ya hear that, Jafar! I'll be back! I'll show that clumsy elf cleric what halflings are made of! Still mad about that? I needed a change, and you were getting old. Besides, Linu was cute. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 19, 2005, 03:28:55 AM (To Brainiac)
Two things... First, we have yet to decide whether Devon will be a Paladin in this RPS world, king of Silmaria or even married for that matter, so you might want to change that part of your profile if everyone decides that he should be a Thief, for instance. Second, you have waaaaay too many abilities for a Paladin/Wizard/Thief. Please cut down on the number of spells and skills you have as multiclass characters cannot be that powerful. Even I have less spells then you do currently, and I'm a pure mage. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 19, 2005, 03:31:38 AM Durindana? I'm sure there were swords before Hector got his ;)
you forgot to meantion that Rogar secretly wants to be a healer :P and dislikes Delor making pyres for the semi-died. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Brainiac on January 19, 2005, 03:41:13 AM Quote First, we have yet to decide whether Devon will be a Paladin in this RPS world, king of Silmaria or even married for that matter, so you might want to change that part of your profile if everyone decides that he should be a Thief, for instance. 1. I didn't say he was the king (best choice for a Paladin is not to be, anyway) and since you referenced the Silmaria RPS, I figured it would be safe to reference the Mordavia RPS (where Devon was a Paladin and was married to Erana).Second, you have waaaaay too many abilities for a Paladin/Wizard/Thief. Please cut down on the number of spells and skills you have as mutliclass characters cannot be that powerful. Even I have less spells then you do currently, and I'm a pure mage. 2. I did try to avoid using the high-power spells and stuck with low-level attacks, defensive, and general abilities. Besides, his mana stinks. :D Still, if you insist, I'll cut back on the Magic (but not the Paladin Abilities, please; my plans for him require a "full" Paladin), though I'll be sure to keep in everything he used/suggested using in the first session. Quote Durindana? I'm sure there were swords before Hector got his wink.gif you forgot to meantion that Rogar secretly wants to be a healer tongue.gif and dislikes Delor making pyres for the semi-died. Actually, I think his name was Orlando/Roland. ;) As to the Healer thing, Paladins are supposed to help however they can. And pyromaniacs just get on his nerves. :D Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 19, 2005, 03:48:36 AM Quote 1. I didn't say he was the king (best choice for a Paladin is not to be, anyway) and since you referenced the Silmaria RPS, I figured it would be safe to reference the Mordavia RPS (where Devon was a Paladin and was married to Erana). Actually, that wasn't a reference to the Silmaria RPS at all. I decided not to use the history you wrote for my character and used my own. She's not a half-elf, her father isn't a dark elf, both parents are dead, and she doesn't even have a hatred for all elves. And I know you didn't say that Devon is the king. It's just to point out that nothing's been set in stone for this RPS world yet so I'd advise you to use a different NPC to teach him all that. [edit] And she might not even *be* Erana's sucessor. I left that part open in case I want to develop on that idea later. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Brainiac on January 19, 2005, 03:54:09 AM Ah, my mistake; it sounded so similar...
...anyways, I'll deal with it tomorrow. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 19, 2005, 05:02:52 AM Khaveen? As in Khaveen the Captain of the Evil Guards of Rasier, as in Khaveen, steal the blackbird from Khaveen? As in "I want to kill you" Khaveen? As in "You slapped me" Khaveen? As in the Khaveen I drove my sword into?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 19, 2005, 05:03:58 AM Quote Khaveen, (No relation to the Raseir one) Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Kailkay on January 19, 2005, 05:06:22 AM No. Not that Khaveen. You want to put your sword in this Khaveen, you probably want to kill him, he may have slapped you in the past, and hey, you can 'steal his blackbird' all you want... Whatever floats your boat.
But he isn't the evil leader of the guards of Rasier. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 19, 2005, 05:08:54 AM I'll stab every body. That Amulet will give me ultimate power! Ya, Avoozl!

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 19, 2005, 05:44:24 AM Long, detailed and impressive character sheet, Kailkay. Good work. :)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 19, 2005, 04:19:14 PM hey, how'd you get the amulet? last time I checked Delor had swiped off the guy in the woods. I'd make sure I'm wearing a nonfalamable outfit before try to slab him.
-------------------- Brainiac my dear boy, didn't you know that Roland/Orlando had Hector's sword? In one story a Tartar king got the rest of Hector's armour from a cave Merlin made (the French aren't very creative so they have to swipe things from other people's mythologies) and set out on a quest to take Durindana from Orlando/Roland. It resulted in a whole cycle of stories. (or something like that, it's been a while since I read all the tales of Charlemagne and the Paladins, which sound like the name of a bad sixties rock group) to quote Thomas Bulfinch (1796-1867) "... Mandricardo thus related his history: 22 ?I had been, before the death of my father, a wild and reckless youth. That event awakened my energies, and drove me forth to seek for vengeance. Determined to owe success to nothing but my own exertions, I departed without attendants or horse or arms. Travelling thus alone, and on foot, I espied one day a pavilion, pitched near a fountain, and entered it, intent on adventure. I found therein a damsel of gracious aspect, who replied to my inquiries that the fountain was the work of a fairy, whose castle stood beyond a neighboring hill, where she kept watch over a treasure which many knights had tried to win, but fruitlessly, having lost their life or liberty in the attempt. This treasure was the armor of Hector, prince of Troy, whom Achilles treacherously slew. Nothing was wanting but his sword, Durindana, and this had fallen into the possession of a queen named Penthesilea, from whom it passed through her descendants to Almontes, whom Orlando slew, and thus became possessed of the sword. The rest of Hector?s arms were saved and carried off by ?neas, from whom this fairy received them in recompense of service rendered. ?If you have the courage to attempt their acquisition,? said the damsel, ?I will be your guide.?? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 20, 2005, 01:32:45 AM Must obey the stabbity urges and defeat that cursed Jafar once and for all! Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 20, 2005, 07:53:23 PM You should be more watchful...if I manage to get back to Mordavia with that amulet, I CAN and WILL find a way to tap it's power and use it to open a rift between our worlds! Ya! Avoozl!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Guest on January 21, 2005, 05:00:53 AM I'm pretty sure Delor still has the amulet. Granted he may have ignighted and/or exploded it by now.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 21, 2005, 12:52:28 PM I've just edited my character sheet, as I forgot that I'd used 'Slow' and 'Invisibility' in the RPS. As I'm adding two more spells in, I'm removing 'Trigger'.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 21, 2005, 05:06:01 PM Removing Trigger, eh? Huh.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on January 21, 2005, 09:24:11 PM Somebody needs to be able to do that ^_^
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 22, 2005, 04:30:02 AM Well, you can always get the Fighter/Paladin/Blackguard (Me) of the group to bash on the door til the trap explodes..then have the OTHER Paladin (Rogar or Jafar) to heal him.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 12:11:03 AM No, wait, he'd just do to him what he did to Erana. Freeze him inside a block of impenetrable crystal and leave him there for like a billion years.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 25, 2005, 12:13:43 AM freeze Delor? have fun trying. You should see how many coats that guy keps in his front enterance. He's got serious issues with the cold. He's going to have some protection against that set up.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 12:14:43 AM It wouldn't be so much freezing as it is crystallizing. Impenetrable crystal. No ice needed. Just add Avoozl and Tentacles.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:15:50 AM Oh, you're so cheesy. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:16:26 AM Yeah, but at least i'm not pink.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:18:01 AM Go jump in a drink! :winktongue:

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:20:25 AM I know YOU are, but what am I?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 25, 2005, 02:20:44 AM a lama
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:21:49 AM Ooookay...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 25, 2005, 02:23:32 AM it's the best I could think of, but hay...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:24:09 AM Hay is for horses. And you're lame. *Clicks the shotgun shell into place*
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:24:16 AM No! I will NOT fall for your rhyming tricks!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 25, 2005, 02:24:42 AM and shoots it into space
Jaf: are for kids Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:25:21 AM And then the shell comes down and cuts Beer-Hoff's eternal flask of beer in half.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:25:59 AM I don't like Trix, though I'm allowed to eat them. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:26:40 AM Silly Rabbit. Trix are for kids.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 25, 2005, 02:27:13 AM who'll just flip their lids
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 02:27:18 AM Ok, I'm afraid I'll have to ask you guys not to post in the RPS trascripts topic for now. I'm going to separate the really off-topic posts from the transcripts so that you can post there. :warning:
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:27:53 AM Yes, ma'am.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on January 25, 2005, 02:30:23 AM I'd comment on this topic exploding, but I just don't give a damn.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:32:24 AM Now, to bring this back on topic...
Quote love triangle, love triangle, ooo I love it when those happen I have a feeling Swift is going to get you for that... :P Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:38:39 AM I wouldn't doubt it. Get behind cover, Beer-hoff.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 02:49:58 AM *polymorphs LB, Jafar and Corsair*
You're all little bunnies. :winktongue: Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:50:46 AM I cast WALL on myself, remember? You just turned yourself into a bunny.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:52:00 AM I didn't see you cast wall. Besides, she has protection from her own magic.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:52:46 AM Well, everyone knows that you can only reflect once, so it bounces off me and turns Swift into a rabbit.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 02:53:36 AM It's a bit too hard to follow what everyone is doing since you guys are just too spammy. And mods have natural immunity to such spells so I can't be turned into a rabbit.
And... *activates cheat code to remove Corsair's wall* *casts polymorph on Corsair* You're now a bunny. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:53:54 AM Who says it was Final Fantasy style reflection? She has a magic amulet.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:54:26 AM Avoozl Compels you! *Blasts Beer-Hoff out the window* Oops. Wrong command word.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 02:55:03 AM My magic amulet. Yeah, I love that little trinket, but I don't really need that here, since Mods have natural immunity. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:55:19 AM What were we talking about again?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:55:34 AM It won't protect you in the RPS. Avoozl is not Magic, he is PURE DARKNESS!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:56:38 AM Now you're just rambling. We WILL get the amulet, save Aziza, defeat you, ETC. :D
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 02:57:06 AM I don't have a magic amulet in the RPS. Anyway, good guys always win. It says here in the DM's rulebook, and the DM is always right. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 02:58:55 AM Oh, sure. But then again, Kadis may get away with the Amulet. You may have to pursue him to Mordavia, into the Cave of the Dark One, and maybe even confront Avoozl himself! I mean, you'll find a way to win, of course.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:00:42 AM Of course we will. We're geniuses. :D
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:01:31 AM But if I'm lucky, then one of the good guys will die on the cold stone floor of that cave...Hopefully Delor...I want to kill Beer-Hoff for his rhymyness.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 03:02:17 AM Oh goodness. You guys are doing this on purpose, aren't you? :P Posting so much to keep poor ol' me distracted from my studies!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:03:29 AM Looks like we're in the same boat. I'm being kept from studying too. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 03:32:00 AM Ok, I've moved the Off-topic posts from both the Character Sheets and the Transcripts topic to here. Try to keep the insanity here. Thank you. :royal:
[edit] Jafar, would you like me to remove the off-topic posts from the RPS Summaries topic? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:43:34 AM They can stay for now. If things get spammy there, then you should probably move them.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 04:15:36 AM Muhahahaha! HA HA HA HAHAHAH!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 04:17:28 AM Yes, we know. You're evil. I think he needs to take a nap...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 25, 2005, 04:18:39 AM or I'll give you a slap
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 04:19:02 AM I forgot the lightning flashes, though. So...
MUHAHAHAHA! HAHAHAHAHA! AHAHAHA! *Lightning Flash* HAHAHAHA! BUHAHAHAHA! Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 25, 2005, 04:25:56 AM lalalalalalalalalalala
look I'm a smirf lalalalalalalalalalalala Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 04:54:11 AM Kill Beer-Hoff! Yar!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 06:19:43 AM Quote I can take care of myself better then SHE can.(Who's gotten kidnapped more? Me, or Swift? :P ) I'll bear that in mind Jafar, and when I need a 'Dude in Distress' for future RPS sessions, you'll be the first to know. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 06:21:11 AM I knew I was going to get it for that...At least I got my point across... :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 06:47:23 AM Quote Jafar, that's pretty weak. A Women is protecting you? That's bad. Still, I suppose Swift is tougher than a wimpy ol' Kirby-Paladin like you. Oh, and, Aziza is as good as doomed. So are you. Simply because If I can hurt Swift somehow, it's good. She'll be weaker for me, then...she's the only one among your motley assortment that I'm worried about. First, there's nothing wrong with a woman protecting a man. I see nothing whimpy about it just because of a difference in a chromosome.Second, Quote If I can hurt Swift somehow we'll see about that, eh, Corsair? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 06:50:32 AM My money's on Swift. ;)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 06:53:55 AM Which reminds me...
You think it's whimpy for a woman to protect a man, but you don't think it's whimpy that a (male) Blackguard is worried of being defeated by a female? :winktongue: Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 06:56:47 AM Corsair is a wiiimp! Corsair is a wiiiimp! Nya nya, nya nah nah! :winktongue:
I wish I had spotted that... Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 25, 2005, 02:22:57 PM I did, but I put it under my hat. I didn't want to pull the mat out from under our fat cat. ;)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:24:42 PM You and your rhymes... you're such a loony. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 25, 2005, 02:25:28 PM will you give me a twoonie?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 02:40:16 PM A what?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:19:22 PM Mainly the reason why I'm contemptuous of Jafar, is because he's a big bad Paladin and all, yet he has to have a wizard protect him from mean old Blackguard. And also, Males have the greater tradition of military service. It also has a little something to do called "Male Instinct". I'll tell you about THOSE later.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:22:28 PM Hey, I've had plenty of adventures without her, I don't need a wizard to protect me from a blockheadguard, and I've saved her WAY more then she's saved me. :P
(Remember who was assigned to protect who when they first met? :P ) Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:25:03 PM Jafar, you couldn't protect Swift from twigs in the ground, much less ME.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:25:56 PM Oooh, sca-ree! *Eats Corsair* ^_^
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 03:27:13 PM Hey! It wasn't that many times, Jafar, and need I remind you of the future plans I have in store for you? :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:28:03 PM Well, how many times have YOU saved ME? ;)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 03:29:05 PM About the same number of times as you saved me, methinks.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:29:33 PM Well. It's dark in here. Just the way I like it. Ow. That stuff burns. Must be acid. Okay...*Pulls out his sword and cuts a hole through Jafar's stomach lining and climbs out* Gotcha.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:29:38 PM Name those times. Methinks youthink WRONG! :P
Corsair, you can't just cut through an alternate dimension... Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:31:13 PM Jafar, I could carve you up with the dagger I have up my sleeve, for emergency situations. I can use "THRUST" Nine times, and STILL dodge your slash.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:32:09 PM Someone around here has quite an Ego... :winktongue:
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:35:11 PM Jafar, you're a balloon. A big, grey, balloon. I can beat balloons any day of the weak. It just takes a little poke on the side with a semi-sharp dagger.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:37:27 PM Sorry, but no blade exists that can pop me, since y'know, I'm NOT a baloon. And grey? Adjust your monitor settings!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:38:31 PM Whatever. You're a REPUS Hero. a REPUS hero. All I have to fear from Repus heroes is that weirdo named Rafaj.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 03:38:50 PM Well, they had many adventures together, didn't they? And we haven't done that many RPs together, so therefore, she must have saved him many times and they weren't recorded.
Corsair, just to point out to you, there might not be any RPS session this week. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:39:33 PM Yes, I noticed, and I am displeased. Maybe on Sunday? (Saturday for you)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:41:06 PM Weak excuses, Swift. Weak excuses. *Shakes his head* And you accused me... :winktongue:
Hey, don't make fun of my awesome badge. You're just jealous that you don't even have a HERO badge! *Shines both of his badges in Corsairs face, then pulls them back* Nya nya nya, Nah NAH! :D Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:41:51 PM Who needs Hero badges? All I need is my awesome Villain Badge.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:42:40 PM Which you don't have...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:43:16 PM That is not the point. Now, it is time for me to jam hot needles into your eyes, and then I shall stab Aziza.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:44:27 PM Stay away from her!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:45:12 PM Whatcha gonna do? She's far far away in Sunny Shapeir..I think I'll drown her in the fountain, actually.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 03:46:26 PM Quote Yes, I noticed, and I am displeased. Maybe on Sunday? (Saturday for you) Actually, Sunday for you means Monday for me.I just realised, Jafar. Your character only saved mine once, and mine saved yours once. So we're even. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:46:58 PM Oh, right. So Saturday for us and Sunday for you?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:47:59 PM Okay... *Note to self: Save her before she saves you*
*Gives Corsair the glare* Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 03:48:44 PM Can't. I've got a personal appointment in the early afternoon, so I don't have the time to sit in front of the computer to lead the RPS.
If Erasmus can make it, it won't be canceled this week. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 03:50:01 PM *Crosses fingers*
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 03:52:11 PM But SorceressSwift will be delayed in Spielburg by influenza? (Flu)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 04:00:55 PM Or maybe she came to Shapeir, then took a nap. We've been up since forever, ya know...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 04:08:24 PM Or maybe she'll insist on staying with Erasmus. Or maybe WIT has other plans for her?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 04:10:22 PM Anything goes* in the wild and wacky world of the RPS! ;)
Somethings may not go. Check the rules for more info. Or else! Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 04:35:13 PM Well, Aziza is gonna die. One way..or the next. I don't care if you guys manage to set the Balrog of Moria on me, I WILL make her dead.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 04:37:42 PM Not unless we make you dead first!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 04:40:13 PM Corsair, important NPCs like Aziza cannot be killed. They might be needed for future RPS sessions.
Jafar, PCs (even bad PCs) cannot be killed either unless the player allows it. So there will be no killing of this sort. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 04:41:09 PM Yeah, I know. Gotta have someone to swear revenge, after all. :winktongue:
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 05:49:46 PM Good choice, LB. I like Drunken Masters.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 25, 2005, 05:51:32 PM Cool idea, "Beer-hoff".
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 06:08:33 PM I know, I know. But I can beat her into unconsciousness and then steal it from her broken body.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 25, 2005, 11:27:02 PM Would you like me to delete your guest post?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 25, 2005, 11:45:52 PM Please do.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on January 26, 2005, 05:27:48 AM Hmm... an old drunken master? Channeling Chin Gentsai or an aging Jackie Chan?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 26, 2005, 12:07:52 PM Nice character sheet, LN and Corsair.
I suppose Night and Swift won't get along very well, huh? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 26, 2005, 12:16:51 PM Uh, I'm not a mage! Don't even have any mana! *hides his wand* :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on January 26, 2005, 01:22:42 PM Holy mofo-ing crap it didn't take long to squeeze fifteen pages out of you guys TALKING about the RPS sessions. That sh1t's scary
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 26, 2005, 01:24:03 PM The RPS session? Mostly it was Bierhoff rhyming!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on January 26, 2005, 01:25:23 PM Oh, 'spouse that'l teach me for only reading the last page eh?

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 26, 2005, 02:00:44 PM Go on, read the topic. It's fun. :)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on January 26, 2005, 03:22:15 PM I read the whole topic, you lied to me.
THE PAIN, THE INFERNAL PAIN SPLITS MY HEAD LIKE AN AXE. WHY? WHY MUST YOU PEOPLE TALK SUCH IRRELEVANT CRAP!!!!! *Whimpers* At least I had the Rhyming to keep me warm, yes, it is all better now. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 26, 2005, 03:23:14 PM Sorry 'bout that. :P
*Buys Jigen an ice cream cone* Don't worry, you'll be fine. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 26, 2005, 03:42:59 PM see, the rhyming was good for something
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 26, 2005, 03:44:09 PM Yeah, upping your postcount.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on January 26, 2005, 03:48:00 PM and keeping Jigen warm :P
-------------------------------------------------------------- (2nd post) ? aren't Khajiits humaniod cats? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 26, 2005, 03:51:27 PM And driving me bazooka.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 26, 2005, 03:53:33 PM And making me laugh.
Yes, we're good at talking cock*, aren't we? talking cock = a local Singaporean term meaning either to talk nonsense or engage in idle banter. [edit] Yes, those are humanoid cats, I think. Do try to keep such queries in this topic, rather than the character sheets. Nothing wrong with posting there, but after seeing how badly off-topic the transcripts thread became a few days ago, I'd rather not see history repeat itself. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 26, 2005, 04:43:51 PM I'd prefer you didn't use the term "Talking Cock". I believe you understand why. The phrase disturbs me.
----------------------------------------------------------------- (2nd post) For those of you who were unaware, in the World of (I don't think it has a name, yet.) Of the Elder Scrolls Series, Khajiit are Elves. However, they have an appearance similar to that of, say, Hobbes. They're cats that walk on two feet and have opposable thumbs. Khajjit are particularly reknowned for their acrobatic ability and innate stealth. Perfect for Thieves. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 26, 2005, 04:58:56 PM Corsair, do try to keep these type of posts over here, and leave the RPS character sheets topic for just the character sheets only. Thank you.
Yeah, I can see why some people might be disturbed by the term, even though it's a harmless phrase over here, so I'll limit my usage of that word. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 26, 2005, 04:59:58 PM My mistake, Swift.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on January 26, 2005, 05:01:20 PM It's ok. You're not the first to make it, and you probably won't be the last. :)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 26, 2005, 05:01:48 PM Heh.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on January 26, 2005, 05:41:45 PM No, Kajiiit are not Elves... they just have a great varied number of subspecies. The cathay-raht (from Daggerfall) look very much like Elves, unlike the suthay-raht (Morrowind). Aside from standing on their hind legs, the suthay-raht look nothing like Elves. Yet, both are Kajiit... and not Elves.
/nerdular nerdance +1 /geekitude +5 Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 26, 2005, 06:03:15 PM My mistake. I misread it. I forgot, only the species with "Mer" as the endling, like the Dunmer, Dwemer, Altmer, and Bosmer are elven. But I do know this.
Khajiit come from the province of Elsweyr, directly south of the Capital Province, Cyrodill. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Louisiana Night on January 26, 2005, 06:31:17 PM ELDER SCROLLS PLAYERS!!! :D
***wonders why everyone misspells Khajiit ( including himself ) . ugh... yeah... the RPS. ***goes to read up on it Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on January 26, 2005, 06:36:03 PM Because they have too many eyes. :D
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Louisiana Night on January 26, 2005, 06:37:09 PM Quote I suppose Night and Swift won't get along very well, huh? I think we already learned that, after you turned him into a sheep. :P Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on January 26, 2005, 06:44:57 PM Well, he deserved it. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on January 26, 2005, 06:54:04 PM Kadis got turned into a newt, once. But he got better.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 06, 2005, 06:25:23 PM Two things, Corsair.
First, try to keep all your comments to this topic. Second, you were a bit overpowered imo in that you either ignored attacks that were directed at your character or didn't seem to be affected or slowed down by spells and attacks that did manage to hit you. As for LB, his character is a drunken master and so it's understandable for him to be pretty fast and good at dodging despite being drunk (actually, it's because of his drunkeness that he's superfast). The so-called 'spell immunity' that you claimed LB had was just him being unfazed by your flame dart. As he'd pointed out in his character sheet, he does have resistance to spells (though he needs to specify what kind of spells) and flame dart is pretty weak for a fire spell, so it is possible for him to be unfazed by a simple spell. Anyway, you need to react to whatever attacks that get thrown at you. I'm not saying that your character should be constantly hit. He is allowed to dodge some of them, but you need to state for those times that he does. And if your character is successfully hit, he should react to it, and not maintain the same attack speed as though he wasn't hurt. Also, not every attack made by your character should be successful. Please also be clearer on how your abilities work. I just took a look at your character sheet, and I see nothing that indicates you having the ability to block out the sun. LB, you do need to make sure that your character isn't overpowered either. If you successfully dodge almost every single attack and spell in every session, then it becomes Godmoding. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 06, 2005, 06:33:03 PM Sorry. It's a bit hard when I've got to react to five people sending fists or swords or spells at me at the same time.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 06, 2005, 06:38:55 PM I understand. We'll probably have to do something about how combat should be handled by a large group of people.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 06, 2005, 06:41:49 PM My original idea was that I'd go down a narrow alleyway, and you guys would follow me and I'd wind up dueling with Jafar (Hey, he's the main warrior.)
Also, part of the reason I seem overpowered is because, well, I'm a lone villain and you're a party o' five. I gotta have some kind of an edge. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on February 06, 2005, 09:09:30 PM Well... as I pointed out in the chat, it was your own fault for walking in front of the party right then. Things don't always go as you plan in RP sessions and you have to improvise. Mistakes like that can get your dumb self killed. So, instead of having that, you resorted to godmoding so you could cover up your own ineptitude.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 06, 2005, 09:33:56 PM And your invincible Shape-Shifting? I SLICED your tail off, and you were just fine!
Also, it says in your profile LIMITED Shapeshifting. You weren't limiting it at all. So don't give me this crap about how I was godmoding. Would it have been better if it had been "Jafar slices at Kadis. Kadis drops dead."? Kthxbi. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on February 06, 2005, 09:50:30 PM Invincible? Have I done anything that made me invincible? You were slowed... the most you could have done was bruise the scaled tail, not slice it off.
Yes, the shifting is limited. If it wasn't, I could just shift into Avoozl and squish your sorry ass. You might want to think your retorts through a bit more before you jump to an "end-all" AOLer catchphrase. ;) Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 06, 2005, 10:29:09 PM ...Slowed. Not snailed. Slowed. It doesn't negate the forces of gravity, either. Also, the sword is this thing called SHARP. My guy isn't giving little fish-nudges, my exaggerating friend.
Also, you just have to shapeshift to heal all hurts and ignore all past wounds. Easy as cake. Slow - Slows a target enemy's attack rate and movement speed. See? Nothing about attack strength. Thank you. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on February 06, 2005, 10:44:00 PM Hmm... since we don't exactly know how "slowed" Kadis was, whether Grit was bruised or slightly cut is a moot point.
However, Kadis certainly didn't have the power to slice off an armored tail either, as you so implied. Heck, it's actually extremely difficult (if almost impossible) to slice off an exposed human limb with a standard medieval fighting sword in one stroke, let alone a scaled beast's while moving at a slower than normal. And yes, shapeshift to a southern QFG troll and your wounds will regenerate, but as with any shape, Grit gains all it's inheriant strengths and weaknesses. Don't play all-overpowering, just play smarter. About your edit and the slow thing... the amount of force behind an attack that was delivered in at speeds far less than normal would be far less than at faster speeds. Based on the laws of physics, lessened damage is implied. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 06, 2005, 11:26:12 PM You refer to laws of physics when we have guys shooting fireballs out of their hands?
And how do we know QfG Trolls have the same physiology as AD&D Trolls? They certainly don't LOOK like AD&D trolls. LotR trolls don't regenerate, you'll notice. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on February 06, 2005, 11:31:05 PM Physics apply to actions that occur in real life. You need a basis of real world physics so everyone has a point of reference. This is especially important to sword and shield style combat. It's a pretty simple concept.
Again, read the QFG1 manual for information on the QFG Southern Troll. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 07, 2005, 12:16:58 AM Oh, yes, QfG1 manuals. Those things are like priceless ming vases, man. Rare as anything.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 07, 2005, 03:39:13 AM Thanks a bajillion!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 07, 2005, 04:38:23 AM Quote ...Slowed. Not snailed. Slowed. Funny that you should mention that. Your character didn't appear at all slowed down after that spell was cast on him. In fact, he appeared to be moving at exactly the same speed as before. Like I said earlier, you need to react to what's thrown at you. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 07, 2005, 04:48:27 AM ...Alright, you've made your point. But dear god, I wasn't the only one who was overpowered in that fight. I think most of you were a little overpowered too, especially how Jakchim shook off my Blackguard Ability. But what do I know?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 07, 2005, 05:00:11 AM You can't really complain that LB shook off your blackguard ability as you didn't specify at all in your profile exactly what it is. All you did was compare it to a spell and said it was far more powerful than that. That's too vague. Also, the rest of us weren't overpowered. Our characters didn't dodge every attack. Instead, most of us received the blows and reacted accordingly. We didn't godmode.
And again, how were you able to block out the sun? [edit]Whatever the case, learn from the mistakes made in this session and improve on your rp style for the subsequent sessions. We all have to start from somewhere. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on February 07, 2005, 02:25:42 PM Corsair: I would have accepted your black guard spell as you defined it later, but in session it was poorly defined. I think the confusion arose from the name of it.
you will note that the dictionary defines compel as: v 1: force or compel somebody to do something; "We compel all students to fill out this form" [syn: oblige, obligate] 2: make someone do something [syn: command, require] when you case Avoozl compel you didn't specify who you were compeling and what you were compelling them to do. since you don't declare these things in your post your spell was incomplete which gave us a chance to respond before you persumably finished your spell in the next post. from the way you describe your spell I think it would be better to call it 'Avoozl repel'. this way we'd know that you are devinely forcing us back without refering to your character sheet. Swift (refering back several posts): I definately agree that the combat system needs revamping. we need some neutral person determine success and failure, attacks per round, etc. because we have as many understandings of the situations as we have players (if not more). until we have this sorted out I'd recommend we avoid pc vs pc combats. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 07, 2005, 07:28:46 PM Sorry, guys. It's been an age since I did stuff like this, and, I guess my ability at doing it rusted up a bit. I've changed around the stuff in my profile so it makes more sense.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on February 07, 2005, 09:13:29 PM no worries, it's all just a game.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 07, 2005, 09:44:02 PM No, it's real life! I can see it happening in my back yard! Ooh! Kadis just split that guard's skull. Messy. And I'm the one who has to clean it up!

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 08, 2005, 10:52:52 PM well swift, if we don't have a whip, we'll have to settle for an alternate form of motivation.
Jafar, work :wizard: Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 09, 2005, 02:25:09 AM I'll work when I want to! You can't make me! *runs*
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 09, 2005, 02:50:57 AM Ignus, LOL.
Very true! :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: Get to work, Jafar!!! :P Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 09, 2005, 02:54:04 AM *Tries to dodge all the magic*
You can't make me! Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 09, 2005, 05:46:15 PM Yes, we can. Avoozl Compels you, Jafar!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 09, 2005, 05:47:08 PM No he doesn't...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 09, 2005, 05:47:39 PM He does! *Gives Jafar a wedgie*
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 09, 2005, 05:48:46 PM *Dodges*
No he doesn't! :P Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 09, 2005, 05:50:23 PM Oh yeah? Well...MYSTIC WEDGIE! *A huge hand flies through the air at faster than light speeds, grabs Jafar by his underwear, and hangs him on a wooden beam protruding from a house.*
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 10, 2005, 12:31:28 AM well great, nnow he can't do the work :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 10, 2005, 02:05:56 AM *puts Jafar down*
Enough of this wedgie, Corsair. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 10, 2005, 02:15:40 AM Thank you. :D
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 10, 2005, 04:03:29 PM Sure, but your underwear will never be the same. *Points at the underwear trailing behind Jafar* AND, he'll have horrible ictches around his bottom for a long time because of the addition to my mystic wedgie, Mystic itching powder!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 10, 2005, 10:57:31 PM they have cures for that, you know
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 11, 2005, 06:33:53 AM *turns Corsair into a "Drink & Wet" baby doll*
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 11, 2005, 03:40:42 PM It's reflected by the magical charm that Corsair has in his underwear, that he bought at Moe's Discount Magical Charms! The spell refracts, turning into many smaller spells, flies into a crowd, and changes several people's arms and legs into Sheep Legs and turning several Vegan Meals into Lamb Chops!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 11, 2005, 11:27:42 PM *Ignus's head feels funny*

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:07:03 AM Oink. Pig boy. Oink.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 12, 2005, 05:07:32 AM Can't we all just get along?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:08:22 AM No. *Transforms Jafar into a balloon* *Nothing happens, except Jafar suddenly grows a string out of his rear end.*
Well, I guess there wasn't much to change. Oink. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 12, 2005, 05:10:27 AM *Summons a plot hole*
*Everyone goes back to normal and stops fighting* As I was saying, wgere do YOU think the last talisman is? It might be in Mordavia... Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:10:40 AM *watches jafar float to the ceiling. trips over a chair for not paying attention*
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:12:44 AM It's not in Mordavia. Can't be. Devon would have found it already. Remember, he has all the rituals...which is why I must kill him!
Swift said I couldn't kill any important NPCs...but Devon is a player..kinda. He's the person we play as in QfG.. Then again, with Dmitri, I might need to save him...a strange predicament. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:15:33 AM worried about the effects of split personality?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:17:10 AM Not really. But I just realised something. The Rusalka still exists, because you have to be a Paladin to send her to her rest, and we voted that Devon was not a paladin!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 12, 2005, 05:18:16 AM And your point is?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:19:23 AM Just a thought.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 12, 2005, 05:20:52 AM If you're thinking we should send her to rest, count me out. I hate undead. :glare:
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:21:36 AM You're also a Paladin. She's a soul that can't rest. Paladins are good people. She's tormented.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:22:46 AM sounds like a heroic thing to do, too.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 12, 2005, 05:23:15 AM Well, I don't HAVE to do it. Sure, I'll lose a few honor points, but I can always give Harimi some food to get them back. :winktongue:
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:24:13 AM You didn't hear? Harami commted suicide, or so the tabloids said. He jumped off the dock in Silmaria without the amulet of breathing underwater and he hadn't read the Swim Manual, either. He sunk like a stone.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:24:55 AM you sure he wasn't pushed?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:25:22 AM Rumor has it that Pholus took a dislike to him and drove a spear through his back beforehand.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 12, 2005, 05:25:47 AM Wabbaever! I still won't do it. It's that last step (kissing her moldy skeleton) that discourages me. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:27:02 AM Yeah, maybe we can get Verdant to do that. He's pretty desperate.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:27:13 AM superficial jerk.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:28:32 AM Of course, there's always Grit. Or Jakchim. We get Jakchim drunk at the inn and then get him to do it.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:31:56 AM or you could just find someone polite enough to do it.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:35:06 AM Hey, Dmitri's a Paladin, but he's not exactly the kind of guy who will do absolutely anything because it's honorable. He has limits.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:36:43 AM must not have been taught well enough
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:39:43 AM Hey, I'd like to see YOU go and kiss a rotting corpse. Just because you can click a hand on a undead monster doesn't mean you can kiss one!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:41:26 AM ya know, that's probably true.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:45:11 AM Dang right it is.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:47:13 AM but there must be someone who will be moved enough by pity. have no clue who that would be though.
Edit:2222! super post! Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:50:41 AM ######, EVERYONE will be moved to pity. Probably. Except Kadis. But I mean, you gotta look at this somewhat realistically. This is an undead which drowns people. Would you want to go down there? I mean, aside from the whole kissing a dead body thing, there's that, too.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 12, 2005, 06:15:54 AM Good character sheet, Corsair.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 06:18:32 AM Thanks, Swift. I do my best.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 12, 2005, 07:07:39 AM Quote Affections: Well, from his first few words, it seems he finds Swift attractive... Who doesn't? :P j/k Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 07:46:03 AM *Grins* Hey, Swift, you doing something tonight?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 12, 2005, 07:51:49 AM She probably is. Sorry.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 07:52:31 AM Yeah, good point. I can't legally drink anyway.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 12, 2005, 03:04:11 PM Well, if Dmitri tries to make a move on her, he'll be turned into a sheep. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 12, 2005, 05:00:36 PM like everyone else who ticks swift off.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:30:33 PM Why didn't you use polymorph on Kadis, so that poor ol' Jafar didn't get a dagger in the gut that was POISONED, too.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 12, 2005, 05:33:51 PM I did, but Kadis dodged it, remember?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:34:32 PM Oh, yeah. It hit some poor guard. By the way, If the Sheep gets it's head chopped off, does the person die?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 12, 2005, 05:52:28 PM Usually, if a sheep gets attacked, he returns to his original form, but if the head gets chopped off as a sheep, then yeah, he's dead.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 05:57:26 PM Well, that sucks. Does the body turn back into a human one, or does it remain "Sheepy"?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 12, 2005, 06:07:20 PM It'll turn back, since any form of attack breaks the spell.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 12, 2005, 08:09:10 PM This conversation is kind of sheepish.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 12, 2005, 08:47:07 PM And, on another point, can you turn dead bodies or objects into Sheep?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 13, 2005, 02:39:29 AM I don't think so
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 13, 2005, 02:44:36 AM What would be the point?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 13, 2005, 02:45:36 AM mutton. though that could be considered cannabalistic
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 13, 2005, 02:48:35 AM Is eating/cooking considered an attack? Would that turn them back to human?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 13, 2005, 02:52:44 AM well, they were human at one point, and their brains are arguably still human. onne thing I wonder is, if the mages could turn people into sheep permanently in warcraft 2, why was the effect temporary in 3?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 13, 2005, 04:59:56 AM Heroes. Duh.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 13, 2005, 05:20:58 AM You mean it was permanent in WC2? Cool! Can I rewrite the rules of my polymorph spell then? :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 13, 2005, 05:21:21 AM NO! :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 13, 2005, 05:24:41 AM Awww.... why not? :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 13, 2005, 05:26:06 AM Umm...you'll start scaring away the visitors!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 13, 2005, 05:27:40 AM Balance purposes. If you can start rampant slaughtering of people by turning them into mindless sheep, well..That is, unless you want Kadis to get the Avatar Ability and also get Summon Infernal.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 13, 2005, 05:39:43 AM Anyway, what did you guys receive as a reward from WIT? Have you thought of it yet?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 13, 2005, 05:41:03 AM I haven't decided yet...any ideas?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 13, 2005, 05:42:15 AM You know, it's a good thing that Dmitri is with you guys. None of you have Torches or Rope or anything like that, and Swift can't cast Juggling Lights or Levitate, either!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 13, 2005, 05:42:49 AM You could just settle on learning a new spell if you can't think of any magical items to receive from WIT. Striker received a ring of speed, btw.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on February 13, 2005, 05:43:09 AM Delor was the torch expert... :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 13, 2005, 05:43:32 AM Grit? Won't that hurt his finger if he transforms into a Troll or something?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 13, 2005, 05:44:17 AM I doubt it'll hurt his finger.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 13, 2005, 05:45:29 AM Either that or the band of gold or whatever will snap in twain, as they say.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 13, 2005, 01:33:41 PM Quote You know, it's a good thing that Dmitri is with you guys. None of you have Torches or Rope or anything like that, and Swift can't cast Juggling Lights or Levitate, either! Who needs Levitate when there's Teleport? And it's not that hard to bring a torch and a rope for travelling. And you don't have Levitate and Juggling Lights either. :P Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 13, 2005, 07:19:13 PM No, but I have their mundane counterparts. Rope and a Torch. I can probably borrow Verdant's grapnel.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 15, 2005, 12:39:48 AM nope, verdant only carries one, no extras availiable
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 15, 2005, 02:09:50 AM I said BORROW his. Unless he already has a rope, that is.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 15, 2005, 05:17:37 AM who said he needs a rope?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 15, 2005, 03:30:28 PM It's the nature of a grapnel to require a rope.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 15, 2005, 10:21:07 PM that depends on how you use it
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 15, 2005, 10:29:08 PM True. If you throw grapnels at a Demon Wizard, then they're useful, too.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 16, 2005, 10:45:16 PM or you could hook them onto the end of a staff and swing them at people
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 17, 2005, 12:23:05 AM But that's not the conventional use for grapnels, anyway, so :fighter:
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 17, 2005, 01:38:07 AM but it is a random, over-the-top mage sort of thing to do
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 17, 2005, 02:15:48 AM No, Mages just light people's clothing/hair/other stuff on fire.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 17, 2005, 02:23:13 AM Then by your definition, Delor is a mage...
Something's not quite right here... Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 17, 2005, 02:25:21 AM Well, no, because mages do it by creating the fireball ON the guys head. Delor MOVES the fire to the guys head.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 17, 2005, 02:28:49 AM Just pointing out that your original definition needed tweaking.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 17, 2005, 02:36:35 AM Bah! Tweaking, smeaky!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 17, 2005, 03:14:28 AM but what if he's an unusual sword-swinging type mage?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 17, 2005, 03:15:55 AM Then he gets eaten by a rampaging dinosaur.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 17, 2005, 03:21:43 AM no, he fried the dinosaur.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 17, 2005, 03:24:19 AM Not so. The Dinosaur wore heat-resistant clothing that day, because of the danger of meteor strike.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 17, 2005, 10:21:56 PM is that an age-related insult?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 17, 2005, 11:00:13 PM Yeah.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 18, 2005, 11:20:25 PM well :P

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 19, 2005, 01:29:31 AM
My amulet only protects the wearer against polymorph magic. It won't help if Iggy was trying to barbecue you. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 19, 2005, 01:34:00 AM It will if it hits dead on! It's a little crisped, but not too bad!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 19, 2005, 01:49:25 AM Damaged my little trinket, did you? :glare:

[edit: ok, My comment no longer makes sense now that Corsair has found a way to hotlink that image. :( ] Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 19, 2005, 05:53:50 AM *frosts the sucker*
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 19, 2005, 06:56:00 AM Woo. You put out a bit of his fire!

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 20, 2005, 07:30:27 AM first of all, his fire's out, so he can't use his hot air to bouy him. second, ice is pretty darn heavy
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on February 20, 2005, 11:35:58 AM I like. He should probably be a bit of an outcast amongst the scientific community who in the QFG world still have a paranoid ignorance of all things magic.
EDIT: Oh and the US issue M16A2 can only fire semi-auto or three-round bursts so you'll need another weapon to do spray and pray. Considering Aaron's special forces background he may have converted the rifle to full-auto himself. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 20, 2005, 12:44:41 PM "Unlawful good", LB? Won't that be "neutral good"?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 20, 2005, 05:50:42 PM Actually, that would be Chaotic good. That means he does good, but doesn't care for the law. If he agrees with the law, he'll follow it. But if he doesn't, he won't.
Also, Jigen, my guy is Military, so he's going to have access to multiple weapons, like Sniper Rifles and Submachine Guns. Now, more sheets, less talk. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (2nd post) He has WINGS, you fool. Secondly, the ice was melted by the fire it put out. So no ice. He's just a form of shadow in the air now. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 21, 2005, 02:37:45 AM No, that's Neutral good that you've just described, not "Chaotic good".
Neutral Good ("Benefactor") - Taking care of people and doing what is right is more important than obeying laws or following rules. These characters or monsters follow good laws, but are willing to break others. A neutral good character does the best that a good person can do. He is devoted to helping others. He works with kings and magistrates but does not feel beholden to them. The common phrase for neutral good is ?true good.? Chaotic Good ("Rebel") - These basically good people do not like to be told what to do. They dislike rules, laws, or making any plans. A chaotic good character acts as his conscience directs him with little regard for what others expect of him. He makes his own way, but he's kind and benevolent. He believes in goodness and right but has little use for laws and regulations. He hates it when people try to intimidate others and tell them what to do. He follows his own moral compass, which, although good, may not agree with that of society. The difference is that Neutral good people may follow the rule if they think it's good, but a chaotic good person creates his own rules. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 21, 2005, 02:50:08 AM Well, he's either Neutral or Chaotic good.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on February 21, 2005, 04:56:55 AM  whatever :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 21, 2005, 07:23:10 AM Not that it matters.
..And, Sir Robin, the not quite so brave as Sir Lancelot, who nearly stood up to the Dragon of Angnor, who had nearly stood up to the Chicken of Bristol, and who personally wet himself at the Battle of Baden Hill. And, Sir not appearing in this film. ------------------------------------------------------------- (2nd post) Shadow. Shadow is not physical. Ice goes through him. Hurts him, but he's already bathing in the fires of Mt. Doom, the Orodruin, Amon Amarth, what have you. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on February 21, 2005, 01:12:13 PM Well you gotta write that bro. All you said he had was the M16. That and you've gotta be ex-military for this one. If you were current you'd be working with a platoon and not available for 'extra-curicular activites' like saving the world.
Still I like the guy, and your Woofie RPS character too. Keep up the good work. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 21, 2005, 04:48:41 PM blizzard tends to fill people with heavy shards of ice
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 21, 2005, 06:03:55 PM Jigen, firstly, there are a few things I can do to separate me from my platoon. Also, there's a nifty thing we call paid leave.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Lord_Bierhoff on February 22, 2005, 01:35:06 AM heehee
you realize merc work is illegal under international law and will usually result in a lose of citizenship if you are caught (not to mention earn you a wee li'l prison term and/or exicusion). but meh... also note: M-16a2 fire 800 rounds per min, BUT their magazines only carry 20 or 30 rounds. now, let's do some quick math. 800 rounds/60sec = 13.333 rounds/sec. 20 rounds / 13.333 rounds/ sec = 1.5 sec 30 rounds / 13.3333 rounds / sec = 2.25 sec a water hose this is not. That said, AK-47's, AK-74's, and uzi's can't shoot for much longer. If you want a gun that'll fire a long time in automatic mode your going to want a belt fed gun. Unifortunately, you pretty much have to mount those and have a couple people or some fancy machinery to work them. But who says this needs to be realistic, you could always have an enchanted magazine or something. ;) M-16's also have a reputation for breaking down. AK-47's are much more reliable, easier to fix, and cheaper (about $50 in most places where you'd want to have one). also G3 is more of a sniper gun. slow rate of fire, but quality over quantity. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 22, 2005, 03:30:05 AM Where'd you hear this stuff about M-16s being more reliable than AKs? Besides, M-16s are issue weaponry for most modern-day military, like the U.S. Army.
Also, 2.25 seconds of sustained fire? That's a good bit. You gotta think, each one of these bullets has a chance of being fatal, or at the very least crippling. Head and chest or stomach shots are rarely survived. And who said Aaron was doing merc work? Spec-Ops is not read Mercs, it's read like the U.S. Navy SEALS and stuff. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on February 22, 2005, 05:22:47 AM slime, not shadow
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on February 22, 2005, 08:32:53 AM Okay a few point while were on this idiotic debate (me and my 'oh hey you might want to convert that M16 crap talking look what it gets me).
First of all, since when has an activity's illegality stopped anyone from actually doing it? After every war (read real war, not these little bush fire engagements we fight these days) there is always a surplus of soldiers who would like to keep working/eating and so frequently move onto another conflict to continue being employed. Additionally I doubt Aaron is going to be on paid leave for the next eight weeks worth of rps adventures, we're going to be jet-setting, getting around the world stimpoing bad guys. He's going to need to be independant. (That and I don't want you calling on a horde of army buddies whenever things get rough, you're supposed to do this cr@p on your own people). Secondly on the topic of belt-fed weaponry. Have you seen Black Hawk Down yet? Every infantry section in the world has at least one belt-fed section-support machinegun (called a General-Purpose MachineGun) they usual weigh in at around ten kilograms unloaded and in NATO nations fire the 7.62mmx51 Nato standard rifle cartridge. Just down from that is the popular FN Minimi (called the M249 SAW in the US which fires the standard Assault Rifle round oif 5.56mmx45, this is also belt-fed. These weapons can be effectively used by one soldier and do not need to be mounted on anything, though for real sustained fire you'll want to at least unfold the bipod. Both of these weapons have a fire rate of: 550 and 750 rounds per minute respectively. And yes, the M16 is a piece of crap. Any weapon that takes fifteen years before it can be used without risk of getting it's user killed cannot be referred to by any other title. Colonel David Hackworth, considered to be the greatest warrior America ever produced got to test the M16 way back when it was being trialed by the Air Force as a survival weapon. He fired under all conditions, wet, dry, dirty, clean, hot weather, cold weather, you name it, and he came back with two words to describe it's performance. It Jams. Now the AK on the other hand has always been recieved favourably by soldiers from around the world. Just goes to show you what a weapons manufactuer can do when they're not concerned with maintianing market prospects or other capitalist crap like that. And finally name me one other country that issues the M16 in large numbers outside of the US and Canada and I'll be very surprised. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 22, 2005, 09:48:02 AM I've pruned that Modern RPS character sheets topic as it got too off-topic.
edit: Who played as Yokel and Killer Sun? (I think there were a few more but I don't recall who else hasn't been identified yet.) Please read through the transcripts. Thank you. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 22, 2005, 06:28:27 PM Yeah, it's probably for the best.
Also, AKs are SIXTY YEARS OLD. They aren't modern. Sure, they're cheap and effective, but my guy is Spec-Ops. Also, I have a variety of things I can use to separate Aaron from his squad. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on February 23, 2005, 11:35:45 AM Yet another testament to how effective they are as weapons. Guaranteed that when you pull the trigger the weapon fires. A track record the forty-year old M16 can't even fantasise about. Why do you think so many countries adopted variants of it and continue to field them to this day with only minor modifications while the M16A2 has had to be extensively worked over?
But yeah, Aaron is special forces and listed as an especially good riflemen even amongst that lot. So regardless of what he carries he can score a lethal hit at clear over three hundred metres without an optical scope. So we'll give him an M16A2 converted to fire fully-automatic and we'll consider the debate closed. And yeah, having thought it over I'm willing to accept Aaron as a currently serving spec ops trooper. So we'll consider that one closed as well. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on February 23, 2005, 05:03:08 PM Point taken. Half the world's issue weaponry are based on the AK-47.
And, on second thought, considering my guy is effectively German Spec Ops, my guy will be equipped with (http://world.guns.ru/assault/hk_g36.jpg) The Heckler & Koch G36 Assault Rifle. USEFUL LINK: GUN SITE. Yeah, yeah. Weapons of War. It's a modern day RP, and you need your guns, otherwise, you're gonna die. So. Behold. Gun Site: THE HK G36 ASSAULT RIFLE (http://world.guns.ru/assault/as14-e.htm) It's also got a picture of my guys rifle. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on February 23, 2005, 05:22:32 PM Corsair, please keep off-topic posts here. Thank you.

the FDA was ruined as a useful institution decades before Bush came around. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 01:36:04 AM K, moving it now.
Note: I'll have to look through the entire topic and merge whatever doubleposts that were created during the move. :( Oh joy. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 06, 2005, 01:45:36 AM Don't worry about doing that, since it'll take for ever...

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 04:02:35 AM definitely.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 06, 2005, 04:03:53 AM I'm waiting until next year when I can afford a new beasty and I'll be able to transform my current comp into a dos box ^_^
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 04:05:31 AM how old is your computer?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 06, 2005, 04:06:14 AM No idea... it's a 1Ghz with 1Gb of memory... enough to run NWN's...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 04:09:40 AM ah. probably better than the computer I usually use
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 06, 2005, 04:10:15 AM It does the job. My bf bought a funky beasty last year *drool*
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 04:11:47 AM the parents got new computers just recently, as well a my brother, but I don't get to load any games on those :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 06, 2005, 04:12:49 AM That sounds unfair :(
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 04:14:54 AM yeah. I'll get a job when I get my drivers lisence, then I'll take a few months and earn a computer. and then but a leather jacket
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 06, 2005, 04:16:42 AM He he he, sounds like you've got your priorities right ^_^
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 04:17:45 AM yeah. lisence first. I take the written test on monday, and I still have an hour of study left for it
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 06, 2005, 04:18:40 AM Over here you've got to take a 30 question multiple choice test, then 6 months later a practical test...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 04:19:58 AM I have an online course that I'm taking as prep. have about 17% to go
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 06, 2005, 04:20:49 AM Good luck with the test! :D
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 04:23:01 AM thank you. I just hope I have more brains than I do luck
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 05:16:00 AM May the Irish luck be with ye, laddie! :clover:
My family has 2 desktops, and 3 notebooks. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 05:26:46 AM my family hasn't bought a desktop for years. though one of them is old enough to be reduced to desktop status
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 05:27:52 AM How old? Ten?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 05:29:47 AM I think somewhere between five and eight
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 05:32:28 AM Not bad. The general lifespan of a computer is 3 years.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 05:34:52 AM yeah, we tend to work our computers to death
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 06, 2005, 05:42:47 AM Fair enough, they're pretty expensive :(
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 05:45:03 AM plus they don't feel it
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 06:12:09 AM Well, Robots mean "slave", so it's not surprising to see us humans treat our computers as such.
Anyway, what should be the title of this MRPS tale? Any suggestions? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on March 06, 2005, 07:27:16 AM how about "We're too lazy to come up with a decent title!"?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 07:28:35 AM Hey! That was MY title, you thief!
And besides, that title isn't good for publicity. We need a better one. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on March 06, 2005, 07:32:12 AM Where's the Rogue smiley when ya need it... :P
"The Rise of Frankenstines"? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 06, 2005, 07:32:51 AM Techno-Magic: A Tale of a bent-on revenge crazy Counter-Terrorist, a hippie Katta, an engineer, and the last of the meeps?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 07:34:21 AM Techno Magic. I like that. What about the rest of you?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 06, 2005, 07:34:57 AM ..you like that? I was joking.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 07:36:18 AM Yeah, I think it's funny how you can come up with something nice when you were trying to be funny.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 06, 2005, 07:42:19 AM Well, the subtitle was the joke part, anyway.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on March 06, 2005, 09:27:32 AM NOW you start taking credit. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 06, 2005, 04:39:32 PM Silence!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on March 07, 2005, 12:35:29 PM *pssst* Were not ACTUALLY saying anything, it's all in text.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 08, 2005, 10:58:24 PM maybe he wants us to use silent keyboards :P
any way, I like techno magic as the title. has a nice ring to it Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 08, 2005, 11:01:06 PM Technochocolate!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 08, 2005, 11:02:21 PM not quite. you feed that to robots
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 08, 2005, 11:03:52 PM HEH! TREBEK!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on March 09, 2005, 07:32:18 PM Techno-magic is good.
Or maybe Steel Knight. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 09, 2005, 07:40:20 PM Steel Knight sounds like a MechWarrior game. But it does sound cool.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on March 09, 2005, 08:14:17 PM How about Mana-Mecha, then? :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on March 10, 2005, 03:39:45 PM If it had any relevance to the episode yeah, but I'll think about doing an episode that IS appropriate to that name.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on March 11, 2005, 03:20:39 PM Wait...you want "relevance"? Here? INFIDEL! :waterdrop:
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 11, 2005, 03:22:15 PM He's referring to the current RP storyline, not here. Duh.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on March 11, 2005, 03:28:01 PM "Ah! I see!" said the blind man to his deaf daughter while she listend to the radio. :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 11, 2005, 04:22:40 PM As a paladin, you might want to use PC terms like "visually impaired" and "hearing impaired".
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on March 11, 2005, 05:09:59 PM I've always liked this one better:
"Ah, I see," said the blind man. "No, you don't," said the mute. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 11, 2005, 08:46:44 PM "You're Fat." Said the Fat man. "You're ubahrgheeeey" said the l33t man. They ate lead from .50 cal Machine guns.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 11, 2005, 11:31:40 PM I see said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 12, 2005, 03:07:48 AM That's pretty good, Iggy.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 13, 2005, 06:46:31 AM Corsair's MRPS character was really funny. His crankiness makes me laugh.
Transcripts for the MRPS have been edited. I just need to wait for confirmation about something first before posting. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on March 13, 2005, 07:20:28 AM Wish I could have posted them, but there was something wrong with the copying and I didn't get it all. Oh well, maybe next time... :(
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 13, 2005, 07:36:11 AM Yes, you're more than welcome to copy and paste for future RP sessions. It saves me the time of having to edit everything.
The only thing about you posting them is that you need to do the following as well: - Indicate who played as who. - Bold the DM's comments - Remove the OOC comments (those in brackets, unless they help to enhance one's understanding of the plot. - Italize the actions - Add spaces to make it more readable. As you can see, it's hard work, but it's an honest way to earn postcounts. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on March 13, 2005, 07:38:03 AM OK, cool.
As for the bloopers: is what I did (take out trivial lines and get rid of text garbage) the way to post those, too? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 13, 2005, 07:41:44 AM Yes, except it'll be more readable to take out lines like "Person A is now known as Person B" or "Person C has entered the Hero6_chat". Those usually aren't needed unless they're part of the joke.
The thing about bloopers is that it's better to post those after the transcripts are out, so that others can read those first, and then understand the joke. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on March 13, 2005, 08:12:23 AM OK, I'll need to start practicing, then.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 13, 2005, 02:48:39 PM Quote Nicholas_Dray, Insectiod_robot - played by Ignus Draconus Iggy, did I get this part right? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on March 13, 2005, 05:16:37 PM Nah, the robot was Jigen.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 13, 2005, 08:06:37 PM No, the robot was Ignus. Apparently, Dray made those out of something or other. Personally, I was going for a more literal interpretation of Modern Day, with Magic being a fading art. Extinct in some places, illegal in others.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on March 13, 2005, 09:29:24 PM I'm pretty sure the robot remained in Jigen's control throughout the session (since he started off controlling them), I could be wrong though.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 13, 2005, 11:18:21 PM You are.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on March 14, 2005, 03:42:41 AM Hey, since Ignus or Jigen aren't around to respond, would you mind backing up that claim with some evidence?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 14, 2005, 05:24:48 AM Sure.
Quote Insectiod_robot - played by Ignus Draconus Do you have that little faith in Swift? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 14, 2005, 05:26:26 AM That's not counted. I wasn't there to witness everything that went on in the chatroom, so there's a good chance that I've gotten that bit wrong. This is why I asked for others to confirm it.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 14, 2005, 05:27:11 AM Meh. I didn't really pay that close of attention. But you're actually probably right, Strikerman.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on March 14, 2005, 03:26:53 PM He's not. As soon as Ignus turned up, control of both Nicholas Dray and his sipder-bots were relinquished to him.
And where's the fun in Quest for Glory if we drop the magic? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 14, 2005, 04:29:24 PM Bang ding! I am Co-Rrect!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 14, 2005, 06:41:01 PM Thanks, Jigen. I don't remember seeing you on msn today. :(
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 15, 2005, 01:52:39 AM Yeah, Robots were me. though at the rate I'm running characters, I'm either going to have to drop the robots or make Mara [not yet introduced] a cameo character. course with the character limit, the latter may become more likely
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 15, 2005, 02:24:22 AM Paladin, if you wish to take part in this week's MRPS, you'll have to post a character sheet in the MRPS character sheet topic before this Friday.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on March 15, 2005, 02:04:58 PM Go on Paladin, post a char sheet. You know you wanna
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 15, 2005, 02:08:22 PM Yup, go ahead and post it. We can't wait to see what it is. :)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on March 15, 2005, 02:16:19 PM Oh and please pick a spellcaster or at least another combat character.
*Cough* Bloody hippies *cough* Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 15, 2005, 02:18:51 PM You saw for yourself how fun the RPS is, Paladin, and you did say that you'd like to join the following session, which just so happens to be this Friday night for you. Do post your character sheet soon so that Jigen has time to work you into the story.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on March 15, 2005, 04:01:06 PM I'm still thinking up my character. I'm thinkin' a hacker, maybe with some magic also...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 15, 2005, 04:03:25 PM That would be a cool character to play as, Jafar. Keep working on it. :)
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 15, 2005, 07:37:41 PM I have it now!

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on March 16, 2005, 08:32:32 AM Cool! Thanks. ^_^
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 16, 2005, 03:28:14 PM Pwincess, I can't pin that Mini RPS topic for some reason. I don't seem to have the full moderating options in the RPS forum.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on March 16, 2005, 05:09:12 PM It looks like none of the mods have power in the RPS part of the forum.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 16, 2005, 05:22:16 PM *Snicker* That's actually pretty funny.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 16, 2005, 05:25:24 PM Quite an end to a chapter, a freak dog unzipping.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on March 16, 2005, 05:26:36 PM Quote Quite an end to a chapter, a freak dog unzipping. There are stranger ends... Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 16, 2005, 05:27:16 PM Like what?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 16, 2005, 05:29:21 PM Corsair, do not reply to this topic. This is strictly for transcripts only. As soon as the moderating functions are restored, your post as well as this one will be moved over to the discussion topic.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 16, 2005, 08:26:20 PM like: "I don't know either, care to volunteer?"
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Pwincess on March 16, 2005, 08:55:37 PM I've unpinned the topic. Btw, you should have full nod access to the RPS category.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 17, 2005, 01:57:20 AM Pwincess, I wasn't looking to unpin the MRPS transcripts topic. I wanted to pin the Mini RPS transcripts since it's current and not completed yet. I wanted the MRPS transcripts topic to remain pinned until it's been wrapped up. And I still don't have full moderator access in this forum. I can't pin/unpin/merge/split topics or edit/delete people's posts.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 17, 2005, 02:48:54 AM Brassfire, you forgot to put in the appearance of Melody.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on March 17, 2005, 06:23:44 PM What is your obsession with pancakes?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on March 19, 2005, 01:08:45 AM Pancakes are tasty. I would have thought the voracious anything-eating Kirby would have been able to figure that out.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on March 19, 2005, 02:33:47 AM Yeah, but I'm obsessed with all food equally. Is there something special about pancakes? Some kind of secret recipe?

solutions other than violence? you mean like hacking into the government mainframe and colapsing the country? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on March 20, 2005, 01:45:12 PM I'm going to assume that's a subtle dig at someone Ignus.
And Striker you try being clever the morning after a friend's birthday party. It may be friday night for you guys but it's midday saturday for me. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on March 20, 2005, 02:13:54 PM Thanks for posting the transcripts, Jigen.
Could you come on msn please? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on March 20, 2005, 03:59:15 PM Yes, Ignus, that would indeed be a solution other than violence; very astute of you to think of it ;)
And, eh, it was merely a comment, Jigen. I know DMing and coming up with stuff is hard work. Don't sweat it. B) Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on March 20, 2005, 05:40:31 PM Bluggh. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on March 21, 2005, 01:51:04 AM Somehow I doubt that will become an issue you'll have to deal with Corsair. And yeah it will be on again not this weekend bu next.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on April 19, 2005, 02:45:46 AM I'm taking a break from the forums, and will return 6 May. Someone needs to post the transcripts while I'm away. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 07, 2005, 05:01:38 PM Sorry about that, but it's over. Next week, we're resuming that "Forces of Nature" RP.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on May 09, 2005, 05:01:22 PM Well, it'll be a stroke of luck if I can come this week. But it's possible.
Just curious, who is Miros? At first I thought you meant Minos, but Minos is, you know, dead. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 09, 2005, 05:07:07 PM He's just an unknown but powerful figure at the moment. We don't know anything about him either, except that he sent agents to do his bidding. Whether he'll make an appearance in the story hasn't been decided on yet.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on May 11, 2005, 12:09:08 AM Huh? Isn't Miros busy with an entirely different world at the moment?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 11, 2005, 12:39:33 AM That's a different Miros. I couldn't think up a more original name at that time, and I was thinking, "it's just going to be a trial run, so it's ok".
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on May 11, 2005, 04:40:25 AM No, it's not. Stop stealing names.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 11, 2005, 05:24:43 AM As I said, this was for the trial RP, one which I wasn't even intending to continue initially, and I had to come up with a name on the spot at that time. That name was the first thing that came to mind. As far as I know, there are instances where more than one character can have the same name. Names are not usually unique on their own. Please don't accuse me of stealing names. Nothing much about this character has been decided on at this point, so that might even be a false name, or an alias for all we know, and a proper name can be given later.
Just for the heck of it, I did a google on the word "Miros". It just so happens to be a real name for some people. Cami R. Miros, Jane Miros, Chris Miros, and Volker Miros are among some of them, to name a few. This name isn't unique, and my using it is not stealing as long as this character remains distinct from Herocia's Miros. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on May 11, 2005, 05:04:44 PM Swift, it was more of a tongue and cheek statement referencing the past times you grabbed a fantasy name a from some other work of fantasy.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 11, 2005, 06:59:51 PM 1. Humour doesn't always translate well online. What you said appeared to be hostile.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on May 12, 2005, 02:27:47 PM *Fills in a plot hole*
That was close. Someone might've fallen inside. :P Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Brassfire on May 12, 2005, 06:46:40 PM Miros is from the Greek language, and for Herocia's Miros is his first name and the only name we know him by. So the fact that other real people have the last name of Miros isn't an issue. We don't exactly have a copyright on his name, however due to the fact that people from Herocia are involved in the RPS it did get rather confusing.
If you want to use the name Miros for a bad guy elsewhere it would be nice to distinguish him/her from Herocia's Miros. Maybe change a letter, or have a different first name, or different last name, etc. Just something so that when I see the word "Miros" I don't go "wtf, what does Miros have to do with this, are they talking about Herocia in here?" Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 13, 2005, 01:57:37 PM Brass, I've thought up a possible idea I might use for that Miros problem, but for now he's not going to be mentioned in the story unless it's needed, since he didn't even physically enter the story at any point.
Jafar, plot hole might have been filled in, but yesterday's chat session wasn't recorded. I've left a message to Spliff via AIM asking him to look into the problem. It looks like we'll have to use the everwhere chatroom tomorrow unless Spliff fixes it. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 14, 2005, 01:46:23 AM Spliff's room can log transcripts again. Please make your way there.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 18, 2005, 02:43:07 PM Corsair, you never seem to run out of characters, do you. :) Anyway, your character is fine, and would fit nicely in the current RP, though I have to wonder why you listed a spell which your character doesn't have.
"Arcana Delu Calim Thalifas *Not Learned* *Causes a bolt of energy to strike a single target, draining the target of all magical power, then returns to Markas, restoring his magical power. This can kill magical creatures like Faeries.* Also, this spell sounds too powerful. If you're seriously planning to use at some point in the story, some restrictions have to be imposed. Paladin0707077, nice to see that you'll be joining in. I would classify your character as a multiclass character since stealth is not a wizard ability, and kobolds are not known to be stealthy creatures, methinks. This also means that as a multiclass character, you do have a bit too many spells. Please cut down your spell list by two. Oh, and two other things about some of the spells in your spell list that needs to be mentioned. "*Meditate: creates a bubble of safety around him where none can harm him, save for the most powerful of magics, or holy weapons. While this spell is cast, he falls into a deep trance, which allows him to restore his mana, and is unable to do anything else until it is fully restored. If his mana is completely drained, it will take 5 hours to recharge." Are there any restrictions to this spell? Like can he cast that during battle? If he can, it's not allowed in this RP. "*Small Mind (Not Learned): Able to peer into a target's mind for 1 minute. While there, he can either observe, cause him to make a mistake (+1 mana), force him to make an action of his own chosing (+2 mana), or destroy his mind completely (+4 mana)." This is another spell which I would classify as a very powerful spell, and to spend 4 mana points to completely destroy a mind is far too cheap. It takes a lot of concentration to peer into one's mind, let alone force him to do anything against his will. I'm afraid you'll have to add restrictions to this spell if your character's going to gain this ability anytime soon. To everyone: Ok, here's the deal about making characters. Having characters equipped with abilities to handle any situation as well as to take out enemies quickly tends to make the game less fun, simply because the challenge to survive or to complete the quests would be reduced or completely gone. Where's the fun in that? It's like having a level 20 character walk into a monster-infested dungeon that's meant for level 1 characters to kill. It can get boring quickly. When you pick skills or spells for your character, think of what sort of character you're making, and whether you plan on specialising. For instance, my character is mainly a water and ice mage, and so you don't see any fire or lightning spells in her spells list, and having a few powerful spells like Mass Teleport meant sacrificing on useful spells like Protection and Aura. No one can be good at everything. That isn't to say that you can't have powerful spells like Death Magic. Powerful spells are allowed in this game, but they have to be reasonable. For example, a death spell is such that the target must make a will save to avoid instant death, and the more powerful the target is, the less likely he'll be killed by it. Some are even immune to such spells. This is one way of making sure a powerful spell doesn't give any one player an unfair advantage over another. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on May 18, 2005, 05:33:25 PM Arcana Delu Calim Thalifas (Bit of a mouthful?) I have a little sideplot for. The idea is that when cast, the ray drains the target, then returns to Markas. However, when used in the presence of demons, the ray will drain ALL their magic. That kills the demon, but the amount of mana in the ray, whne returned to Markas, will overload his brain, firing every nerve in his body and rapidly speeding his heart. This, in turn, will pump boiling blood through his veins, burning him alive from the inside out. Oh, and, the place where I intend for him to find the scroll is in the middle of the Still-demonic stronghold of the Lost City.
It's a suicide spell, essentially. Also, what's wrong with his meditation ability? He falls asleep on the battlefield. The bubble may make him invulnerable, but he can't do anything. Also, I won't be able to make it this friday. Going to go see SW3. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 19, 2005, 01:45:01 AM Suppose you and him were to spar, and the only way to win is by total elimination. The moment he's losing, he casts this spell so you can't hurt him anymore. So while he sleeps rather peacefully during battle, you're outside waiting for him to finish his thing because you can't win as long as he's not eliminated. And then five hours later, while you're somewhat exhausted from all that waiting, he's recharged and ready for battle. Even if say you're somehow just as charged up as he is when his spell is over, the fact that he can cast his spell over and over again would mean that he can simply retreat into that bubble whenever he's losing. It's a cheap way to do things, and I really hope he didn't have that in mind when creating this spell. Personally, I don't see the need for this spell. RIP would be a better spell, since you can't possibly cast that during battle.
As for your draining magic spell, you'll need to put more restrictions for that. It shouldn't be able to affect every creature. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on May 19, 2005, 02:04:12 AM Well, the creature has to either be a wizard or be a creature of magic. Certain creatures will have too MUCH magic and kill him. Others won't be effected. Also, the thing literally takes no mana to cast. He can only cast it when his mana is low, otherwise his reserves will burst, throwing him into a coma or possibly even killing him. Also, wizards wil not be killed by it, simply drained. In fact, that's why he hasn't been taught the spell yet. No one uses it because it's almost as dangerous to the user as thermonuclear blast.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 19, 2005, 02:55:48 AM Corsair, your arcane missiles's damage seems too powerful, and it has the same name as my arcane missiles. Either lower the damage done, or add restrictions please. Please rename that spell too.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on May 19, 2005, 03:25:52 AM How about this for the Mind Attack spell: Basically requires 5 minutes of concentration to do it, and anything other then "Read his mind" will mean a Will-Save for the target. Two Will-Saves for "Destroy Mind".
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 19, 2005, 03:28:55 AM I'll have to take that under advisement, but it still looks too powerful.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 19, 2005, 01:10:48 PM The 'destroy mind' part of your spell, Paladin0707077, what does that mean? Is that an instant death spell, or a 'turning someone insane' spell? Well, either way, it does sound too powerful still, and needs to be balanced out first. I'd suggest removing the 'destroy' part completely and simply sticking to 'attempting to control his actions'.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on May 19, 2005, 03:37:45 PM I thought you said Death Magic was okay, though? I'll change Arcane Missiles around, though.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 19, 2005, 05:17:46 PM Death magic is ok only if you balance it out so that no one player has any unfair advantage over another. Read my words carefully. Your spell at the moment does not seem to have any restrictions.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on May 20, 2005, 02:22:27 AM Alright, the spell to "Destroy Mind" shall be replaced with "Forget me", which causes one memory of choice to be destroyed. 2 save throws required. costs 14 mana.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 20, 2005, 05:26:34 AM Alright. I'll allow that. :)
So what about Meditate? Are there any restrictions for this spell? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on May 20, 2005, 01:02:33 PM This is why I play mundane characters. I don't play for the power trip.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on May 23, 2005, 10:28:08 PM You're a NINJA, man. You don't NEED megapowers.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on May 23, 2005, 11:23:36 PM Yeah, can't be used in battle, and it requires 30 minutes of character time to work. The more I do it, the fast I can cast it, at DMs descression
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 24, 2005, 01:07:53 AM Paladin0707077, ok, I'll accept that. Now the one last thing that needs to be addressed is your spell list. For a multiclassed character, you have a bit too many spells. You can either ditch the sneaking ability so that you can keep your spells, or remove one spell you don't need.
Corsair, have you changed your arcane missiles spell yet? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on May 24, 2005, 01:59:23 AM I changed the class of my guy into something a little more inspired. And before you say being able to summon the powers of fire is unfair, well, the spells don't tap into mana. They tap into his health. So he can kill himself with spells.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on May 24, 2005, 03:21:34 AM and make him very vulnerable to other people's attacks
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 24, 2005, 05:27:40 AM It's comments like that Corsair that tells me you don't quite understand what an overpowered character is. There is nothing wrong with being able to summon fire. It's how you *use* those powers and whether there are any restrictions that determine what's acceptable and what isn't. For instance, if your flame ability is capable of wiping out an entire army in an instant, and there's no way to escape that sort of fate, then yes, it's unacceptable. Your character is fine, and I'll accept it.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on May 24, 2005, 09:20:22 PM Technically, my guy COULD do that now, but he would be consumed, and so would everyone within about a hundred meters from him.
And, just to make it clear, Shaper is a subset of Mage. My guy CANNOT use Arcane, Wind, Water, or Earth spells. So no teleportation, flying, feather fall, Summon Cheese...etc. Just so you know. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on May 25, 2005, 07:33:34 AM Hmmm...wasn't Wizard the "General-trained" magic class of QFG and Magician / Sorcerer the "Specialized" categories? So wouldn't Shaper be a subset of the Wizard category?
OK, Stealth's gone. Only did that to coincide with his history anyway. We can say the Hero was too dazed to notice his clumsy attempts to follow. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 25, 2005, 08:13:05 AM Either that, or your character trailed him with teleport.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on May 25, 2005, 08:28:11 AM Yeah, that works, too.
So, when's next game? Friday at 8, was it? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 25, 2005, 08:43:49 AM For me, it's always been Saturday morning, 10am, GMT +8, so it'll definitely be a Friday night for you but whether it's at 8pm or not would depend on your time zone. What I'll do is to make an announcement in the forums 1/2 hr before it begins.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on May 25, 2005, 03:25:58 PM ...Wizard, Mage, same thing. I always considered Mage/Magic User to be what you are before WIT pronounces you a Wizard. Since my guy chose to, instead of furthering his knowledge along the more conventional path, he devoted himself to controlling a single element. Hmm..this sounds pretty cool..I think I might write up a little sidestory about this.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on May 25, 2005, 08:03:34 PM If you were following someone with magic, and the other guy knew enough about magic, couldn't they track you by the spells that you cast?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 26, 2005, 01:58:13 AM Hey guys, I need a favour. I don't think I can get this transcript edited for posting in time. Could one of you edit and post it for me? Thanks.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 28, 2005, 05:17:04 PM This is the transcript for 'The Force of Nature, Chapter 3'. I removed a confusing bit to make it easier for you to edit.
Please remove all out-of-character lines, notices from the chat server (like X enters chatroom or Y has quit), and the time. Please bold the Dungeon Mistress' lines, and italize the action lines. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on May 30, 2005, 03:27:38 AM Done. I hope. I tried to match it as close as possible to what Swift usually does.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on May 30, 2005, 05:34:37 AM Excellent! Love the subtitle you picked! Good job!
I usually put a group of lines spoken by the same character together, but this will do just fine. Thank you for helping out. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on May 30, 2005, 11:57:54 AM Hehe, that WAS a cool title.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on June 05, 2005, 10:03:30 AM Here are the transcripts for yesterday's RPS session.
I might not be running next week's session as I seem to tire easily over the past few days. If that happens, there will be a Mini RPS session instead. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on June 05, 2005, 11:09:47 PM Done again. Again tried to make it like Swift does.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on June 08, 2005, 04:18:07 PM Thanks, Paladin0707077.
And now for some bad news. Due to school commitments, I won't be able to run this week's RPS session. I'm trying to find a replacement to wrap up the current RP story since LN won't be able to make it from next week onwards, but so far I have no volunteers. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on June 08, 2005, 07:20:40 PM Well, he wanted to kill of night anyway. I say we just have him rush the big bad guy, and they both topple into a chasm or something climactic like that. I think Markas will get mobbed by Vampires or something and slain.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on June 08, 2005, 09:00:19 PM what happens when LN comes back?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on June 09, 2005, 12:23:54 AM By the time he comes back (or if), we would have started a new story. Anyway, I'd rather his character remains alive in case he wishes to use it again next time.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on June 09, 2005, 03:35:12 PM Well, I'd volunteer except I'm unreliable about chat sessions.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on June 09, 2005, 03:39:03 PM Thanks. Because I'm *this* desperate for a replacement DM, I'll let you try being a DM this week, but do you feel up to the task?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on June 09, 2005, 03:42:17 PM Wait, you'd be willing to let ME DM? Wow, you ARE desperate.
Alright, I'll try my best to get there. What time (forum time) is the game supposed to start? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on June 09, 2005, 03:43:54 PM Saturday 10am, GMT +8h.
Perhaps we should meet in the chatroom now so that I can walk you through the steps. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on June 09, 2005, 03:44:29 PM Alright, on my way.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on June 09, 2005, 04:28:56 PM Quote Saturday 10am, GMT +8h. Btw, Saturday morning for me is Friday night for you. I'm not sure what timezone you're in, so you may want to use a (reliable) convertor to see what 10am GMT +8h translates to in your place. Perhaps we should meet in the chatroom now so that I can walk you through the steps. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on June 09, 2005, 09:20:09 PM I can't decide whether Markas will be decapitated or torn in half. What do you guys think?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on June 10, 2005, 01:16:43 AM What, now you want to kill YOUR character, too?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on June 10, 2005, 01:17:44 AM He kills ALL his characters.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on June 10, 2005, 01:19:09 AM Ah, I see.
Look, just let him live. I promise that tomorrow will be the last night of this particular campaign. Fineeto. Done. Then you can shelve him forever, or bring him as an NPC to be killed next game, OK? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on June 10, 2005, 05:11:17 AM I just don't like him. I keep trying to defy cliche and stereotype, and I've had enough of it. If I have to obey a stereotype to find a character I like, so be it.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on June 10, 2005, 11:55:55 PM Well whatever happens, it's happening tonight. If you wish to join tonight's RP session, and perhaps finish up this game and some characters, then go to the chat room in an hour.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on June 11, 2005, 06:23:37 AM I missed it...I'm sorry...
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on June 11, 2005, 12:42:39 PM No need to apologise, Jafar. Just come for next week's session.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on June 11, 2005, 08:33:02 PM We did "Markas' bizzare dream" anyway. No fear.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Paladin0707077 on June 13, 2005, 07:51:15 PM Transcripts are up.
And I must say, Silly Clowns were at an all-time hi. It's OK, Jafar, you were there, anyway. Sort of. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on June 14, 2005, 12:46:52 AM I suggest we just make it into Markas' drunken dream. Or something. Because that's too weird to integrate into the rest of the plot.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on June 17, 2005, 12:28:43 PM Sorry guys, but I have to finish up a project before 12 noon tomorrow, so most likely I won't be able to run the session. If that happens, use this scenario for your Mini RP.
As you and a group of adventurers were walking down a path, an old man limps towards you, leaving a trail of blood behind him. "Please, listen to me! The orcs are attacking our village! Avenge us!" He collapses and dies. Thus begins your next adventure. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on June 17, 2005, 12:34:49 PM Grah! Curse your exams! Always on the friday too, oh, yes!
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on June 18, 2005, 04:43:52 AM Due to my being unable to turn up for this RP and no one else except Corsair turning up, I'm arranging for a session tonight, 9pm GMT +8 (tentative).

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Inquisitor on July 23, 2005, 04:37:56 AM Im new to this forum, but not RPing. How often do they set up RPs? The last time I RPed on a forum they poste donce every half a year or something like that.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on July 23, 2005, 03:07:14 PM Inquisitor, we have one in the chatroom every Friday night. I've checked your character sheet so far, and I'm puzzled by your Lawful Good alignment. To me, torturing people or burning them at the stake doesn't strike me as a 'Good' thing to do. Your character seems more 'Lawful Neutral' to me at best, and 'Evil' at worst. Could you please explain why you classed your character as 'Lawful Good'?
Reish, your character sheet seems fine, abeit wordy. I'd preferred one where a quick glance would have given me the gist of what your character is, followed by a detailed description, but whatever floats your boat. Btw, there is really no need to go /me |He says "Blah blah blah", and then does action x. You could have just typed out "Blah blah blah", followed by "/me does action x". It's a lot quicker that way for an rp chat. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Reish Vedaur on July 23, 2005, 04:50:16 PM The reason I do that is because I tend to play multiple characters, and I much prefer to use paragraph form. It is a story, after all, and that is how I roleplay wherever I do my freeform, so I might as well write like that. There's never any reason to skimp on the details if they can be there and not be superfluous.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on July 23, 2005, 05:26:09 PM I knew it was a odd habit! :P
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on July 24, 2005, 01:55:39 AM I understood his guy. He's a religious zealot, a fanatic. The people he tortures and kills ARE strictly evil. He's a little messed up in the head, that's all.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Inquisitor on July 24, 2005, 03:09:03 AM Quote I understood his guy. He's a religious zealot, a fanatic. The people he tortures and kills ARE strictly evil. He's a little messed up in the head, that's all. Exactly! I, too, wasnt sure enough to put lawful good, but he fights evil, and might eventually turn neutral, due to him not being excaepted by his church, or even Evil, due to his dabbling in the dark arts. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on July 24, 2005, 03:15:08 AM I don't think all witches or werecreatures are evil. Plus, he uses the dark arts and torture methods against his enemies. Does that make him any better than the prey he hunts? It just doesn't sound Lawful Good to me.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Inquisitor on July 24, 2005, 03:37:16 AM Thats the twist of the character. His church, for the better good, endorses and enforces the tarditional burning of witches and heretics. Good was never defined as loving all animals. A paladin wouldnt hesitate in killing an orc as an inquisitor would not hesistate in killing what they believe to be evil. Most cases, to catch the eye of a witch hunter or inquisitor you probably are evil. The only time you might be innocent is if you are a good natured necromancer, (which I play often), or someone he might see as a "witch".
As far as his dark powers goes, they were noble intentions at first. But the greed inside of him,(I never said he was innocent), wants more then just the power to fight his enemies. He wants more. But he wouldnt sacrafice an innocence.....yet. He may very well become neutral, if his church finds out. Or even evil of the greed gets the better part of him. Has very lawful, and as oppose to intentions, he is good. How would a druid react to an innocent lumber jack chopping down excessive trees? The lumber jack isnt evil. The witch hunter reacts to what he sees as the "sinners". Note the quotations. Thus we have drama and conflict for me to roleplay. If its too much I can always play a nicer one. It just wont be as original. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on July 24, 2005, 04:44:08 AM Good means different things to different people. Some people might see killing an animal as evil, others see it as a fact of life. Some people may consider torture to be nothing wrong, others see it as horrible cruelty.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on July 25, 2005, 05:09:58 PM Quote A paladin wouldnt hesitate in killing an orc as an inquisitor would not hesistate in killing what they believe to be evil. I disagree with that statement. A true paladin won't attack any creature (including orcs) unless they're hostile and cannot be calmed through any means.Anyway, I'll let you play as the Inquisitor. I'm interested in seeing how he'll interact with the other players. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on July 26, 2005, 01:26:34 AM Quote A paladin wouldnt hesitate in killing an orc as an inquisitor would not hesistate in killing what they believe to be evil. Not really. As the QFG4 manual said, if a family of ogres move in the neighborhood, a paladin will probably be the first to welcome them. You'd be suprised at what gets invited to dinner at a paladin's place. : ;P Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on July 26, 2005, 05:02:00 AM I'd be more concerned as to what would be invited to the Ogre's dinner...you'd be going in as the main course. Though, to be totally honest, he might SEE himself as Lawful Good, but in reality he's at least Lawful Neutral. He has good intentions, so he can't really be Lawful Evil.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Inquisitor on August 01, 2005, 03:19:19 AM The way I expect him to react is to probably be dignified and traditional at first. Maybe a bit extremly conservative, but once he starts seeing another player or NPC that falls under his list of "heretics", it will be hard not to "try" to kill them there and then. Of course, If its outside of the main party, he wouldnt hesitate a second. Even if it was a garunteed death for him. What Im hoping to expand on is his more yearning for power, then his actual pursacutions. No worries though, there will be plenty of burnings. Its a wonder how easy it is to see someone as a heretic is you just look hard enough.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on August 06, 2005, 01:31:17 AM RPS starting in 30 minutes time. Please make your way there.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Ignus_Draconus on August 08, 2005, 11:42:19 PM I thought that the difference between a paladin and an inquisitor is their objective. the paladin looks for the truth that is there, the inquisitor searches for the truth that he wants to hear, even if it isn't
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on August 09, 2005, 03:06:18 AM Good point, Iggy.
I'm wrapping up the NWN RP this week, and then I'm taking a very long break from DMing till December. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on August 09, 2005, 03:43:37 AM I'm afraid not. Much as I'd like to RP still, the whole point of a break is to spend time on schoolwork.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on August 13, 2005, 03:53:47 AM Jafar, thanks.
Corsair, I'd like to address some of the comments you made in the chatroom. Quote <Corsair> I think the plot went over Rosella's head, though. <Corsair> She's a simple girl with simple tastes, apparently. <Corsair> Like the naive girl she is, Swift bought it. Then, when he was a fair distance away, he fired off another arrow at Swift, which was stopped by a spell of sorts. A DM should never insult the intelligence of his party members. Rosella was lost at the part where the werewolf appeared, because you didn't indicate how the werewolf appeared in the story. Even you admitted that the werewolf part was "ill-thought". And the part where I supposedly was a "naive girl" was actually where my character was only pretending to believe him in order to weasel out more information from him. It's rude to make such comments about your own party members. I do not wish to see anymore of this in future. Are we clear? Quote <Corsair> Furthermore, his character is like 20, yet he's mastered something like 7 styles of Martial Arts. Jigen's character is 29 years old, so it's not surprising that his character would be skilled in martial arts. And they do tend to receive training at an early age. Quote <Corsair> He learned Leaping Knee and crushed a man's skull when he was 7? <Jafar> Hey, I'm just guessing. Why don't you talk to him about it? <Corsair> Because whenever he's present, so is Swift. What is that suppose to mean? That I would automatically side with Jigen and pick on you? Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on August 13, 2005, 04:12:35 AM Good grief, lady...geez, am I not allowed to speak my mind? You certainly SEEMED to lap up his little lie, you were more than ready to let him walk away unharmed. As for my remarks about your complete objectivity, yes, you would be predisposed to support Jigs over me. In my opinion, anyway. But feel free to dispute it, I'm not trying to prove something.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jafar on August 13, 2005, 04:18:29 AM Quote am I not allowed to speak my mind? It's now that you aren't allowed to speak your mind, it's that you're being plain rude some of the time.Oh, and don't insult Rosella. Or your life is forfeit. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on August 13, 2005, 04:26:40 AM I don't have a problem with you speaking your mind, but I do have a problem with you being rude, making assumptions about people and badmouthing them. Just because my character seemed to have been willing to "let him walk away" doesn't mean she would have done so. As for your dispute with Jigen in the chatroom, more than one person felt that you had provoked him, and so did I. If you have a problem with him, go ahead and address that issue with him privately, and I won't interfere, but if you're going to argue in the chatroom I can't allow that.
I brought up that issue of you talking bad about others in the chatroom because if you want to be a DM, you can't go about insulting others. I won't allow that either. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on August 13, 2005, 07:07:14 AM Don't tell me you've bugged my house, too. Geez, half the people here must be freaking MI5 agents..
And geminy christmas, I get joked about all the time, and I just laugh it off. Yet I say your character is naive, and you'd think I just said a disgusting racial slur or something. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on August 13, 2005, 07:17:20 AM You're not even making sense anymore, and you're still avoiding the issue. You badmouthed a few people in the chatroom, and this is not your first time either. Keep this up, and you'll have to face the consequences.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Brassfire on August 13, 2005, 07:21:23 AM Perhaps because you weren't joking, Corsair. *shrug* At least, that's what it looks like to me.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on August 13, 2005, 07:46:56 AM ..Can we drop this? I made a few ill-chosen words, okay? Geez, you can't say boo around here without somebody accusing you of murder.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on August 13, 2005, 07:58:50 AM Very well, but if I or anyone catch you badmouthing people or insulting their intelligence again, you won't be let off lightly.

Corsair what we're trying to tell you is that you have to engage the brain before you open the mouth and try to think about how someone is going to react to what you have to say. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction and all that. You say something offensive (and don't pretend the naive crack wasn't offensive) and people are going to react negatively, don't kid yourself that we're going to sit there and take your sh1t. And you kinda lost me on the seven year-old thing or the seven styles of martial arts Jigen's supposed to have mastered or anything else where you pulled the number seven out of your butt. What exactly are you on about? I don't recall Jigen saying anything or there being anything in the char sheet about that. Just because I say Muai Thai knee, doesn't mean Jigen has done Muai That. You said it yourself a few weeks ago, this isn't the real world, so if there is no Thailand, logically there is no Muai Thai. At any rate you don't need to have studied a particular martial art to be able to do certain moves, I could grab your head and jump my knee into you jaw now, I don't have to have studied Muai Thai for fifty years to knee someone in the head, anymore than I have to have played Tennis for fifty years to do a backhand shot. And no, you can say boo around here, we have just learned that you don't say 'boo' you say 'I'm a man of copious intelligence and everyone who disagrees with me about anything is an idiot and an egomaniac'. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on August 15, 2005, 06:49:35 AM Ok, now that everyone has spoken, and since Corsair had made a request for this matter to be dropped, I'm going to request that anyone who wishes to discuss this matter further to take it to the private channels. I don't want a flame war here.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on September 01, 2005, 05:54:28 PM So the Morrowind RPS is on Friday, right?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on September 02, 2005, 03:22:55 AM Only when LB's finalized the rules and whatnot.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on September 02, 2005, 03:43:03 AM Are the rules really going to change that much? Hmm, I may actually need to read them this time.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on September 02, 2005, 01:50:01 PM Yes, LB will run it quite differently from how we normally run it, and there will be a turn-based system. Once he's finalized all this, he'll make an announcement.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Striker on September 02, 2005, 09:34:33 PM Yeah, no Morrowind RPS tonight, guys.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on September 03, 2005, 03:23:41 AM It might not even be next week. Again, you'll have to wait for an announcement first.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on September 03, 2005, 04:03:25 AM It doesn't generally take two weeks for a jury to find guilty or not guilty when a man's life is at stake. I doubt it'll take another week for a few rules to be finalized.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on September 03, 2005, 04:13:44 AM The two of them aren't even related in any way. One of them concerns a man's life, and the other is just an activity. LB still has school to worry about and scheduling to do. He doesn't even know when he'll be able to begin the rp. Like I said, just wait for the announcement.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Reish Vedaur on September 03, 2005, 05:33:45 AM I *could* throw my hat into the ring if you promised not to stomp on it =P I have a combat system developed for the most part from the T1 system used in most free-form roleplaying rooms... then again, I'm not sure what direction you all are taking.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on September 03, 2005, 05:49:07 AM You can go ahead and suggest it if you want. Let LB see if he wants to use it.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Reish Vedaur on September 03, 2005, 04:09:52 PM (This was written for something else, so some of the commentary might not apply lol)
--Classic T1-- Fighting in free-form roleplaying is quite a production. Attacking, defending, counterattacking, spellcasting, natural abilities, psionics -- well, there's no psionics here, but you get the idea. As someone once said, free-form RPG battles should be written as if they were ripped straight from the pages of any quality fantasy writer's published novel. You, of course, don't have to have the same quality or vocabulary, but descriptiveness is key. But before we cover all that, we gotta lay down some ground rules. Rule #1: Stay within the laws of physics. This applies to you unless you have an excuse such as, "This planet doesn't have the same physics (not acceptable here)," or "I have a special ability that allows me to fly (I'm pretty sure no one has that ability)." If you're wearing armor, you'll move slower. If you're wearing constricting clothing, you'll move slower. If you're using a heavy weapon, you'll not only move slower but take slightly longer to attack and defend; there's exceptions, but you really have to know what you're talking about to have it allowed, so for the most part I'd suggest sticking with a lighter weapon and lighter armor if you intend to have a defensive strategy as well as an offensive. Rule #2: Any injury can hinder you. This means, just as in real life, everything from "If you've got a knick on your arm and they nudge against it, you'll feel it," to "If your gut is torn open, you're not gonna be able to think as straight either from the pain or the natural endorphins produced by your body, and have slower reaction times, not to mention the natural reaction to hold the wound." If your arm is broken, any contact with it would have seering pain. If your leg is broken, you could very well not be able to walk or even stand, depending on just how bad or out-of-whack it is. If you've had a gun go off by your ear, you're not going to be able to hear a dart coming at you (I do remember a roleplay where someone tried that on me). Rule #3: Anything can alter your current status, position and facing, under the correct circumstances. That includes bullets, swords, knives, teeth, fists, fingers, claws, rocks and gravel, sets of keys, -- even dryer lint fired from an air cannon. Okay, let me explain; even if you were an invincible creature (which isn't allowed, so stop that train of thought right there), if someone strong hit you in the jaw, it might not hurt you, but your head would move with the man's fist. If you're in a fight and someone throws their hat in your face, it will either distract you or block your field of vision more and more as it approached. If someone had no weapon so they smack you in the face with their set of keys, it'll claw your face up -- just cuz they're not a weapon doesn't mean they won't hurt you. Rule #4: Speaking of invincible creatures, there can be no "god moders" or "Mary-Sue's." Those are the utmost worst characters in any free-form roleplay. What are they? God moders have powers beyond anyone else's, cannot be killed (or have no weaknesses whatsoever), and can easily destroy the world if it were their whim. Mary-Sue characters are those that can seemingly do everything that so happens to come into their path, whether it be to clearcut a forest, follow tracks in leaves, darn some socks, heal an injured character, ignite something on fire with their mind, forge a sword worthy of kings, cook a world-class meal, and still have room for whatever skills they miraculously gain by being presented any problem. Rule #5: No one is perfect. Learn to foul up every now and then; whether intentional or accidental, you should learn to accept it and get on with it. You'll have plenty of time and perhaps plenty of other characters later on. Alright, by now you should have a good idea of what we're looking for. Now to give you the structure of the battles themselves... There are five basic actions in battle: positioning, preparing, attacking, defending, and declaring damage. -- Positioning is declaring where you are or where you are headed. Examples include standing in the field defensively facing your opponent, charging at the opponent, retreating away from your opponent... Notice, in all examples, the position is always given relative to the opponent. This is not necessary but it is very useful, especially when reviewing a battle later on. -- Preparing is what you do to begin to use a special ability; things like movements done while casting a magic spell. -- Attacking is quite obvious, but it could also be the declaration of a spell being cast. You'll never tell the defending player whether or not the attack hits; that is for them to decide. It may be disputed if the attack doesn't seem to have been defended against well enough. -- Defending is also quite obvious. Dodging, blocking, dissipating or otherwise avoiding an attack's damage through any means. -- Declaring damage is done by you when your opponent hits you, using your judgment of your opponent's attack to decide what damage they actually did. The amount of damage declared by you may be disputed by the attacker if it turns out you didn't understand the intent of the attack. Let me make one thing clear, though; you never declare the other person's damage for them. You may suggest the damage, but you may not say that it is in fact exactly what happens to them. There is no real structure in the order of which you must do these, until you get out there and fight yourself. However, the first post in a battle, unless their position is stated otherwise through prior roleplay, is always started with positioning your character. We will now demonstrate some of what we've been telling you in a quick fight scene. First battle: * Jintao sits at the end of the bar, ordering a rose wine from the barkeep and drawing his hair behind his elven ear. * Berhet at the other end of the bar watches, growling and muttering, "Contemptable elves." (You'll notice that their positions have been declared already by prior roleplay.) * Jintao, being an elf, has a heightened sense of hearing, and clearly hears Berhet. His eyes narrow and he glances at him, hand slipping into his jacket pocket, taking a shuriken ((japanese throwing star)) between two of his fingers. (Now Jintao is preparing...) * Berhet, his eyes still on Jintao, watches his movements and grasps one of the bottles on his belt, pulling it out and immediately throwing it straight for Jintao. (You'll notice I didn't say he threw it at Jintao, shattering agaisnt him as it struck him.. that's against the rules, as Jintao may still defend) * Jintao quickly leans backward in his stool, practically backflipping behind the stool, the bottle whizzing past him, hand flicking out from his pocket and throwing the shuriken straight for Berhet's neck. (That was a defense with a counterattack) * Berhet ducks, the shuriken grazing the back of his head, drawing blood. He stands up angrily, grabbing another bottle from his belt and throwing it at the floor in front of Jintao. This time, it wasn't a dud. The bottle was actually an alchemical formula mixed as it shattered from two seperate sections of the bottle. Its reaction is volitile, and it explodes. (It didn't hit Jintao directly, mind you; it hit the floor in front of his position at that time assuming he'd not moved yet. Also note how the damage on Berhet was declared.) * Jintao, unknowing of the formula of the bottle, mearly put his hand on the hilt of his sword. As it exploded, it sent Jintao careening across the floor of the bar, the concussion from the blast giving him a nosebleed, and the glass embedding itself into various parts of his body. He stands up drearily, limping as one shard has severed part of the tendon in his right knee, glaring at the blurry image of Berhet over on the far side of the bar. (Note all the damage dealt to Jintao from a single attack; also note that he, an elf and a professional assassin, actually did screw up, and has paid dearly for it) --T1 Revision J-- Okay, so, there were actually two revisions of the battle system.. but one of them was for a competition only, so.. There are different combinations you can do during your turn, however, there's limits as to how many you can do. You can do as much as you like, so long as there is only one attack or counterattack. There is also the ability to interrupt, meaning if you want to you may attack while they are attacking, thus forcing them to defend and negating their attack. An interrupt counts as an attack, of course. Also, at the end of the turn, you must state exactly what it is the attack is meant to do. This doesn't mean that's what it definitively will do, just that it's what the character means to do. Any spells or special abilities used must be done in one post, with a description of how each step takes place and about how long the whole process takes; based on this the defender can use an interrupt, depending of course if they are in range or have the time to do so. Other than that, it's T1. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on September 03, 2005, 09:25:23 PM Impressive...most impressive.

Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Swift on September 04, 2005, 02:25:05 PM Could you elaborate please, Jigen?
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on September 04, 2005, 07:45:11 PM Yeah, I get bad feelings all the time. Like, when I consider slamming my fist down on a nail, I get a bad feeling that it would hurt.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on September 06, 2005, 03:59:04 AM A man of copious intelligence considers slamming his fist down on a nail, wonders never cease.
But to elaborate my bad feeling mostly comes from a fighting system that completely ignores conditioning and experience. Sure a bunch of plebs fighting each other can't block out pain or press on despite the agony generated by their wounds but there are plenty of examples of it happening in RL. That doesn't mean that a character should be able to simply ignore their pain whenever they get hurt, but more that, if the situation warrants it, the character isn't immediately going out of action just because they've been hurt. That and a lot of the other elements to this system are just common sense spelled out in front of us. That and a person who is used to wearing heavy armour becames strong enough to move with something approaching swiftness. The only reason heavy armour is thought to be restrictive is because it's adding an extra 20-30 kilos to your body when you move. Put that on somone who doesn't normally wear armour and it becomes a major encumbrance. Get them to practice in that armour every day for a year and it becomes less so. Same thing goes for heavy weapons. And actually having a rule that requires us to pre-set our 'mistakes' is kind of weird, don't we make enough mistakes just through miscommunication and lack of paying attention as it is (I know I do). I'm not dissing Reish, I'm sure he has good reason for implimenting a system where I personally don't see the need for it. It's just that this is supposed to be on-the-fly sort of game where we can be more inventive in our solutions rather than following a system that favours one kind of approach over another. I always prefer the 'one rule' system. That one rule being, 'What the Game Master says, goes.' Then it's just a matter of picking a fair GM. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on September 06, 2005, 03:11:18 PM Jig, you really think conditioning matters that much when you've got a spearpoint through your upper leg? You're GOING to limp, like it or not.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Reish Vedaur on September 06, 2005, 04:24:26 PM "There is an exception to every rule, including this one." First off, at no point did I make it a rule that characters can't be a thick-hided strongarm whose trained in heavy armor for quite awhile. Regardless, it takes not only a lot of training but also high-quality armor to get the same flexibility as a person fighting without it; otherwise, it would be like fighting in a parka. Even thought it is true that most plate armor is actually lighter than modern-day body armor given to soldiers (40 pound vest plus optional though often mandatory 20 pounds of armor slips inside of it), it is also true that plate armor has joints while modern day armor is entirely flexible, save for the abdomen.
Rule #1 is to take physics into account and not deviate from them. If you are using plate armor and a broadsword, and you're trying to do a complicated maneuvre, you're probably going to do it a bit slowly or fail at it. There is very little conditioning that can prevent that. That's why chain mail exists. Pointing out technicalities doesn't really get us anywhere, and yes, it is a lot of common sense, but if you've ever roleplayed where I have you realize common sense is often a commodity so things like this have to be spelled out, and others have to be ruled out because of abuse. For instance, I once got into a fight with someone who was floating, and he happened to be the GM. I performed a move that was a lot like a jump kick and he ruled that, because of physics (and his misunderstanding of a certain rule), the kick did nothing because I had nothing to push off of, regardless of how much I tried to explain to him the concept of a jump kick was the same as the concept of a bullet or arrow. Common sense is often overlooked for a character's well-being, and that's what the system tries to prevent. Where on earth does this system ignore conditioning and experience? The ability to argue your case, and the fact that your character is the way he is (including their conditioning and experience), are both part of this system and they are in fact integral to it. I genuinely don't see where your problem with it lies. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on September 07, 2005, 08:40:34 AM Quote if you've ever roleplayed where I have you realize common sense is often a commodity Can't argue with that.I can see where you're comming from now Reish (bitter, hard-won experience) so I get what you're doing. What I don't see Corsair is where I said you weren't going to limp. Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Corsair5 on September 07, 2005, 04:54:16 PM You were chattering on about conditioning and such. Besides, Platemail was evenly distributed around your body, so a grown man who wasn't crippled or otherwise impaired and was in pretty good shape could move around fairly easily in it. There's many examples of knights running, mounting, doing cartwheels, even, in platemail.
Title: RPS discussion topic Post by: Jigen on September 08, 2005, 01:49:11 AM Yes, you're right, I was prattling on about conditioning and such. I never said, nor implied that any ammount of conditioning could allow someone to operate with total normality after having their thigh impaled by with spear.
