Title: The Rise and Fall of the Fangame Empire
Post by: Corsair5 on March 01, 2006, 08:06:07 AM
What the deuce has happened to all the fangames? I feel like 75% of the other 'Quest' fangame groups have been shot dead. I think the only ones that are still active are IA, us, AGDI, and KQIX. What happened? Did interest decline?

I'm still alive, I think.

Maybe people are starting to forget why they liked adventure games...  I haven't played one in years...

My theory?  Well, I think the generation I fall into who dug the adventure games during the genre's prime are out of their parents' house and have jobs.  I don't have much time at all to play on the PC like I did back in the day.
But then we could beat the dead horse and talk about how adventure games don't sell and that's why you don't see them too often.  This results in a loss of general interest because people are forgetting about them.

I think there is more than those 4 projects that are active. What is defined as life? Sometimes these projects get very lazy with updating their site, but work continues behind the scenes. I'd think SQ7, SQ2x, and Project Katrina are still alive. Perhaps there are other projects still going.

That being said, there has been alot of fangame death or at least stasis over the years.

Yeah, well, for most of those 'stasisified' ones, the onboard computer to keep them alive happens to fail.
