Hi.

Gron said that he'd contacted you some time ago. Have you heard from him?

Regarding the QFG5 & WinXP issue, there is a working solution, so don't despair!

My guess is that you registered to be a member of this forum, rather than a member of the members' forum. The login details for the visitors and the members forum are very different, so you can't use them interchangeably.

I'm not sure if Gron accepted your application, but I do know that there's a script error that prevents him from adding members to the database (it affects Captivus as well), so that could be the reason why you're not a team member yet. I'll check with him.

QFG 5 worked just fine on XP for me. I only installed the patch.

(I have Service pack 2)

There are ways of fixing the deep scratch. I'll look up the Internet for possible solutions later.

I've heard that toothpaste works for smaller scratches, but Im not going to recommend it.

According to the google search, one way to deal with deep scratches is to take the CD to a DVD video or CD music rental store and have them repair it for a modest fee. Another way is to purchase a disk repair kit.

Please don't get the wrong idea. I still haven't heard from him, so let's not jump to conclusions yet. Sometimes a section admin is very busy and might take some time to respond. I'll update you as soon as I can.

you're kidding about those disk repair kits, right? the last one of those I used made the disk absolutely useless.

For me I thought getting QFGV to work on XP was hopeless.  Having it set to run in "Compatibility mode" for Win 2000 made it work.  It would actually run fine, just the sound was all choppy.  Win 2000 mode fixed that.

Most of the time changing the compatibility to other versions of Windows doesn't do much.  At first I had QFGV set to Win 95 mode and that just made it crash.

You could always give it a shot in DOSBox, right?

Actually no, QFGV is Windoze only... DosBox will not run it.

Rawr...
Well, then, I need to find some place that sells serial mice cuz I still have a fast-but-not-too-fast machine with Windows 98 on it next to me that I use as a Teamspeak server, and when I finally get a copy I can play it there.
