Ah so you were telling me the correct (and practically never used) word for '&' rather than what was said in the source I was quoting, right.

The Scots never seemed to mind. One thing my brother always found curious was that throughout history many of the meanest, ugliest, hardest, MOFO-ing warriors all tended to wear skirts or something that looked distinctly skirt-like.

That's delightfully non-helpful. Try... I don't know... elaborating?

Sorry, I only ever had the CD version.

Just what is 'ampersand' anyway? is that the '@' symbol?

Don't make direct eye contact. Just very slowly, very carefully, back away.

Ah I see, well in that case. Most of the armour is made for the upper body, generally in most samurai armour styles you'll see them wearing shin guards (there are thousands of places on the net where you can look up the japanese names and I'm at work and do not have access to my L5R sourcebooks) and a kind of armour skirt that comes down over their knees. Some heavier armours will incorporate armour for the thighs as well, but these are generally only encountered in full-on cavalry armour for open-field warfare. For general wear samurai rarely wore more armour than a chest plate and sleeves.

Of course it all depends on what period you're looking at. Once the entire country was unified armours became less important, martial arts became more internally focused and Samurai began to behave more like statesmen. It is in this era where men like Miyamoto Musashi rose to prominence.

Translation: Ah for %&$ (cent-sign replaced with percentage)

Swearing in long-hand asterix-mouth.

Just play Sam and Max, you'll find out.

I think Will means that he didn't like Morrowind and Oblivion looks like they haven't really upgraded the game concept, just the graphics and AI.
Yes, and what we're saying is that that isn't true, especially in the case of the battle system.
What? Are you telling me the fighting is now determined by say... game play as opposed to the computer rolling dice? This I have to see.

To Silverbolt: Watch 'The last Samurai' again, then you tell us how they moved in those armours.

And yeah, I'm with Corsair (Ow! it actually hurt to type that), some of the masks that were made for the helmets are freakin' cool.

UN Peacekeepers RP: Better call the United States. Fast.
Well i think it's only fair to inform you all that UN-instigated peacekeeping missions have met with success without the aid (or even involvement) of the United States. Take East Timor for example.

Black holes? Geez. Reish have you seen the 'evidence' the scientific community use to justify the theory of evolution, they've been getting away with making sh1t up as they go along for decades my friend.
30  The Hero6 Project / Game Development Discussion / How would YOU reinvent the adventure game genre? on: January 23, 2006, 11:43:25 PM
Probably more important than tightly structured plot would be characterisation. It is character that moves a good story forward, this is true in film & literature but in video games characters are still mostly vague. Back in the day this was ok because you were supposed to be immersing yourself into the situation (in the earliest Space Quest games you could even put your own name in instead of going with the protagonist's name of Roger Wilco).

Even adventure games that came out after the Sierra/Lucas Arts heyday suffer from this. In the Shenmue series your character does have a name, a voice and a bit of an attitude, but he seriously suffers from 'protagonistism' and pales into sheer mindless boredom compared to the character's around him.

The only character who really pushes the story forward himself (that I can think of) is Gabriel Knight. Gabe wants to learn about his family's bizarre past and how they mysteriously connect to the voodoo murders and it is through the character's actions and interactions that the plot advances.

Well that's enough of my barely-thought-out rantings, I'm going back to work.
