Title: Which QFG game Did You Play First?
Post by: Paladin0707077 on March 13, 2005, 08:21:58 AM
Yeah, my mom got me this one for Christmas back in the 80s, and I loved it. But I always was curious about the one before it. It wasn't until the 1-4 CD Anthology came out that I got to play it.

QFG 4 was the first game I played.

K, let me elaborate, since I was in a hurry when making my earlier post. My brother's tutor was really generous and gave him some genuine Sierra CDs, including QFG 4. I played that game together with my sister and brother at first, and was hooked by the storyline and jokes. Eventually, I went to buy the anthology.

My mom happened to see QFGI:VGA in the bargin bin at CompUSA sometime in either '93 or '94 and bought it.  I started playing it and at the time, thought it was one of the coolest games ever.

My first QfG was the Anthology, and I think I played them all. I never could figure out the puzzles. That was like, when I was six or so.

I just learnt from the QFMG forums that if you can prove that you did own the original copy of the QFG CD/s, then you can request for someone there (most likely Elsa) to send you the game.

Or just buy it on EBay

In regards to HQ, it ties with QFG4.  I absolutely loved both games, and considering the number of bugs in QFG1, I certainly prefer HQ.

QfG4 was my favorite for plot and stuff, but the bugs got annoying.

I think it was back it 2000. I was in the seventh grade or so. I was a huge fan of Sierra/Lucas Arts adventure games. I played LsL6, King's Quest 6, and other games.

Ok, Confession time. I'm Romanian. A relatively poor country (well, at least we have plumbing, but we don't use computers. Right now I'm using smoke signals to tell you guys this  :P ) and so, while 20 dollars may not be that much to you over there, around here it's a relatively large sum. Hence, I cannot afford to buy original games. I have to resort to making *sigh* pirate copies.

Moving on. A friend of my dad's gave me a CD with tons of games. Camelot, King's quest 5, etcetera etcetera and the Quest for Glory series. I played them all, starting with QFG1 remake, and loved them, but got stuck in QFG 4 because of the copy protection...heh heh. I guess I got what was coming to me. Anyway, format, get a new computer, I never saw that guy that gave me the games again.

For FIVE years I searched for them, and now, finally, In 2005 I got the internet and managed to find a website where I can download them, plus QFG5 from torrent. So now, 5 years and 1 GB of downloads later, I have them all, including the PDF version of the manuals.

This has been the story of a guy that loved the game too much, and led him to his demise...or not.

Hope you're not going to tell the feds what I did  :D

Hero's Quest, this was when i was pretty young. Probably when i was 9, so that was in 1996.

EDIT: Where can i find this torrent, and what is the best bittorrent program to use?

Hero's Quest: So you want to be a hero.

I was a huge fan of the Quest games such as Space Quest 1-3 and Police Quest 1-2 to that time and also a frequent D&D player. When I saw that Sierra announced a RPG game in the style of their previous Quest games I just HAD to buy it. I was really amazed and kept with the series since.

I played them all in order after buying the Collection Series, starting with QfG1 EGA.  Recently I replayed the series (this time as a fighter/paladin, since I first played as a wizard), and I tried QfG1 VGA.  Personally I think the EGA one is better, but then, I have a strange affinity for the text parser.

Oh, and between Dosbox and the belzorash patches, the bugs in QfG4 really aren't a big deal anymore--I didn't even have to use a slowdown utility my last time through.  Although Dosbox doesn't help if you only have the Windows version (like in the aforementioned Collection Series  :) ).  But the belzorash fixes worked wonderful for me.

Post by: Glorioushero324 on June 28, 2005, 01:41:58 AM
Gotta love those belzorash patches. They worked wonders on both QFG3 and QFG4 (fyi, it got rid of error 52 completely)!!

Title: Which QFG game Did You Play First?
Post by: Olorin on June 28, 2005, 02:20:56 AM
Actually, I still had a problem with QfG3 even after installing the patches--the Simbani initiation wouldn't work.  So I e-mailed Belzorash (or NewRisingSun, whatever he actually calls himself) in order to inform him that the patch wasn't working.  I thought I'd have to resort to Turbo or CPUkiller, but Belzorash responded promptly with the information that he hadn't actually tested that fix yet, and asked for a saved game of mine just before the bug.  Shortly after I sent him one, he sent me a new version of the patch for me to test.  It worked perfectly, and he updated the patch on his site.

So he seems like a great person.  I am very impressed by what he has done.  :paladin:

HQ1. Was there anything greater, as a child?

I never got into those other 'quest' games, like King's Quest and Space Quest and stuff, because of the text parser thingy at the bottom. Constantly. And you'd have to type and move and time it right or you'd die....

Anyways, I beat the Quest for Glory series sometime a week or two after Dragonfire came out. I played them in order, beat them in order, though I did start 3 before beating 2. It's just... my way. I was a child and was scared away from 4, but I went back after my testes dropped and whooped Avoozl's butt.

Then I found my old, borrowed, backup copies of several adventure games. And my like, 5 disk Roberta Williams anthology CD set thing... which I revered. So, I beat all the king's quests prior to VGA (AGDI), whooped... that stupid wizard that scared me as a kid... made it to 4 and gave up, started Space Quest, and beat alluf 'em. :D Somewhere in there I played through LSL 1, 2 and 3, but I... didn't find them appropriate for my age (14/15)... Maybe I should have shied away at the opening thing... but the questions were sooo easy! Anyhow... I also beat Conquests of Camelot and Conquests of the Longbow... Both of which are top notch games...

Okay, the point of all of this typing is losing it's evidence, so I will state it now before posting: I whooped these games. You should too. Find them. They are in great supply on Ebay. Borrow them from a buddy. Ask... someone... <_< and I am sure that if you are really interested in playing these games, these people can help you procure them by giving tips for finding them.

I highly suggest you play through them, if you love the adventure game Genre. Ask any AG fan for a list of these games, and I'm sure you'll get a whopping list that you'll play through till you're a grandparent.

By the way, I've never played Police Quest. Is it a good series?

[edit by Swift] Nice try, Kail. You don't get to do that here.

Actually, it took me quite a while, but I found the QFG series, well, only 1-3 on one of them. But it took a LONG LONG time. I won't tell anyone the name for two reasons:

1:It's illegal.

(New member in the area)

I am a D&D fan and I was a huge Paladin supporter. When I heard this game featured a Paladin as a character, I persuaded a friend of mine to loan me his disks.I played it as a Fighter because I found no Paladin( and despite my poor English I made it through .  Though I thinked the Paladin becoming to be a visible quest, I managed to become one in QFG3 just a year ago)  . But I fell in love with the game and when the Anthology came out(in Greece I mean) some years back( 4 or 5 years back) I played all of them( and enjoyed them better since my English had improved quite a bit). I think though that the best one is 2.

QFG 5 rocks. if it was a what  game series was the best, I would say the Total War series, but since we talking about QFG.  I had a Mac computer too, I play QFG 1-3, but for QFG 4, since they had those bugs in it, at the beginning and crap, I would play the saved games already on the QFG 4 game  :o  but oh well.

If it weren't for the copious bugs, QFG4 would be the best one in the series, hands down. As it is, it ties with QFG2 for the lead, at least, in my book.

QFG 2 was great but for one thing: Raseir. BAH! No map and nothing to do while you were there waiting for days to pass.

My favorites were QFG2 and 4, (I can play it with no bugs! ^_^ ), then Numba 1 (The original and the remake had their good points), then 3, than 5.

The Hyperactive Weapon Master was a flaw, but he wasn't that annoying compared to bugs like the near-impossible chain puzzle in Yorick's maze, or the colors randomly going crazy. And there ARE ways around those bugs... :thief:

At the very high possibility of sounding niave or even oblivious, what is this Quest for glory? Im guessing its an old comp game, though I havent heard of it. The only old comp game I played, back when I was like.... 4 years old... was Kings Quest I believe. I dunno. I kno it was a floppy. But this quest for glory sounds fun. Is it possible to get it in some fashion?

If you're lucky, you might be able to pick up the anthology (Games 1-4) for $50 American. Five isn't that great, so you aren't missing a huge amount.

Forgive me, but I was asleep during my chemistry classes (except the ones where the teacher was hot), how do the numbers correspond to these metals?

Title: Which QFG game Did You Play First?
Post by: Silverbolt on August 23, 2005, 07:44:49 AM
Beats me. Only thing I learnt from Chemistry, Math and Physics classes was how to read greek letters.

Helped me out pretty nicely in Greece... ^_^

Title: Which QFG game Did You Play First?
Post by: Reish Vedaur on August 23, 2005, 12:05:07 PM
Well.. my chemistry teacher was always male, so I didn't have that advantage, although his wife was hot <had a crush on her> and she taught English, and I had her class too...
But I still paid attention...... didn't retain all that much, but I can relearn it pretty fast if I want to.

ANYway!, I don't think they really have anything to do with the metals unless it's like their electron count or something >.> which I doubt.

Title: Which QFG game Did You Play First?
Post by: Silverbolt on August 23, 2005, 12:11:03 PM
Every metal and non-metal in Mendeleev's table of elements has it's own order number (Z) that is the proton count of each element. The proton and electron count of an atom is the same. And it's unique to every element, so yes. Every number, does indeed corespond to an element.

That concludes todays episode. Toon in next time for "Fun Facts by Silvy".

:D  Heh...I tried to post a novel but my connection went dead before I hit submit.  So that was a sign to shorten it up a bit.
Hello hello!  New to the site.
QFG4 was my first.  A former teacher of mine got me into it.  I saw him playing it and he let me borrow QFG 1-3.  To make a long story short, it bonded the two of us.
After catching up to QFG4, he was stuck at a certain spot and we started tackling the game together.
The series really did put a major impact on my life.  When I wrote short stories, they usually were inspired by QFG.  I put up a little website with my experiences and actually had something to draw about.
After major changes in my life, new faces come, old faces go, I find myself still wanting to be part of the QFG community.
In the Spring, I'm going back to college to work on getting my CS bachelor's.  Maybe, just maybe I'll land a decent job in the gaming industry.
Alright, I'm rambling.
(trust me, you didn't want to see the unabridged version of this post)

Oh yeah....my high school Chemistry teach used to say that alot.  Funny guy.  Sometimes we all wondered if he did have his frontal lobe removed.  He had a lazy eye and he used that for great material.  We spent more time laughing our butts off than actually learning.  And we set alot of stuff on fire!!!

Technically, a man is always warm by your definition. After all, body temp is 97.6 degrees farenheit (Don't ask Celsius, I never did figure out the conversion rate.), and according to the weatherman, that's at least warm, usually considered hot.

Title: Which QFG game Did You Play First?
Post by: Reish Vedaur on September 15, 2005, 04:20:31 AM
Celsius = 5/9 (Fahrenheit - 32)
(9/5 * Celsius) + 32 = Fahrenheit

So You Want To Be A Hero:
- Mountain valley setting below the treeline.
- Magic shop with eyeball that follows you.
- Karl, your friendly neighborhood gate guard.
- Big frost giant.
- Fairies that dance you to death.

Trial By Fire:
- Desert setting.
- Keapon Laffin at the magic shop.
- Groucho Marx impersonator at the saurus pen.
- Endless labyrinth of city streets.

Wages of War:
- African jungle/savannah setting.
- Effendi.
- Liontaurs.
- Walking waffles.

Shadows of Darkness:
- Eastern european setting.
- Igor and the perturbed scientist.
- Cave with a mouth.
- Necrotaurs.  'Nuff said.

I didn't like the overland maps in 3 and 5, and I didn't much like the combat systems in 3&4 because you had the buttons that you had to click to attack, made things clumsy. five had a hokey system, only two attacks, and you couldn't dodge.

The problems begun with 4. While a great storyline, its combat system was terrible to my opinion. In 5 it just got worse. The best combat system as have been said was 2.
