having a theives sword and abilities to be a Highwayman....

Awesome!  Does that come along with the incredible background music of that song by Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, and Kris Kristofferson?!?!?

Back on topic.  Are you coming back Shammy, or is this a quick hit and run?
32  The Hero6 Project / Offtopic Mayhem / Who here plays WoW? on: September 15, 2005, 04:57:52 PM
I'm taking a break from WoW right now.
1. Got a little burned out.
2. I still don't have internet at home back.

I have a 57 (if I recall) Warlock named Rulic on the Blackhand realm as alliance.

I could see a rune magic ritual for end of game closer.

That's wierd.  I bet we were looking at the site at the same time.
Don't forget to scroll all the way down to read some side notes on the games.  Alot of it is common knowledge, but some is pretty interesting.

The real secret behind qfg was that it was light hearted and humorous.  It never took itself seriously...

...

I guess what I'm saying is that it's important to make a game where you can kick the grandma's cat and still be a hero.  But if being evil doesn't get you to the objective of being a hero, then it doesn't belong in the game.
You have a good point.  It is YOUR adventure.  I can think of interesting ways of having a war going on while you're lollygagging around the region.  You could do it in a very funny way.
I recall an old Star Trek adventure game, even though humor wasn't a factor in it, where you were in a trench in a fabricated WW1 battle and all you did was do little quests for the soldiers in the trenches.
To keep the spirit of humor, I could see a Gomer Pile (Pyle?) kinda feel to it.  The whole show was based on the military and the setting took place during the Vietnam War, but not once in the show did they even mention the word Vietnam.
Monty Python comes to mind on good military humor for inspiration.
I've kept this thread on my mind in the past week and kept thinking of scenarios of how it could work.
Heck, the way storywriting goes, you could make a whole game just about a war, but keep it humorous and not even fight the enemy of the people you're being the hero for.  Perhaps your goal is to find what actually started the war, who started it (who doesn't have to be fighting in the war), and how to end it.  Many wars in history were started from trivial issues.
I look back at that post I made and wish I could take some of it back, because possibilities are endless in storywriting.
However, my opinion still stands on the point where I would like the Hero#'s to stay away from turning into hack and slash "I got points for killing someone" games.

I personally would prefer the original keep-it-simple system to the game.
If anything, I'd agree with Jigen on the point of an NPC implementing that system and the player having an option of learning it as well.  Heck, that's how we got paladin.  You could have it to where anyone could learn it, it becomes a new class, or it just compliments the other classes.
Blasphemy, Rulic!  How dare you say we add another class?
Well, as long as you keep in under control.  All things considered, Pally is like a hybrid of a fighter and a spellcaster.  I don't wanna say Wiz because Wiz spells and Pally spells are different.
I say keep it under control, and what I mean about that is don't make it so much of a totally alien class to make it a huge challenge to incorporate into the story, but at the same time have enough class base material to make the game different for the 'rune mage' or whatever you want to call it.  Its very hard for me to put my opinion on it into words.
Pah!  I ramble again.  Looking at it initially, I say I wouldn't dig it.  But as long as it doesn't change Wizard I think I could get used to it.
Heck....another class may increase the replayability.

I am off both on Saturday and Sunday.  So anytime is good for me.

[edit]Well....my ISP was supposed to be here yesterday but they actually scheduled it to NEXT Thursday.  Comcast is the devil.

[and another edit]  Does anyone hear use Teamspeak?  My old guildies use to implement TS alot.  Great for, obviously, communication and just flat out fun.

Please forgive me for 'nay-saying', but it just would seem like a conflict with the aura of QFG for a hero to take a side on a war.  I like the idea of stopping a war.  I'd hate to see the NPCs I'm trying to help getting into the line of fire of the conflict.  Seemed to me that the hero is the 'champion' of the good, and sometimes not so good, people of the village/town/city.  His primary role is to solve a major problem in the region under the guidance and clues of the people he's helping.  Secondary role of course would be to help individuals with their menial tasks, and through that he learns or obtains means to an end to the major problem. [edit]Think of the hero as a "preventive bloodshed" adventurer.  That's why I always thought there was a whole school for heroes.  Because Glorianna is mainly peaceful, but they need a few people to go around taking some hits AND use his brain to make sure it stays that way.[/edit]
I honestly can't assertain seeing a game trying to emulate QFG to have such a violent feel to it.  What I recall of QFG was that it had less violence than the dime-a-dozen RPGs out there.  Its an Adventure game.  Also half, if not more, of the material in QFG to the best of my recollection is a little more upbeat, docile, and funny.  The more serious moments are divided into the conflict with the villians, DEFENDING yourself from harsh wildlife, and the dramatic 'teary eyed' moments of saving something beautiful in the world.
Also, with the thief idea of having houses to steal from.  To me....a good thief Hero is more like a Robin Hood type.  Stealing either from neccesity (and not uber-loot) or from evil, so that you may reclaim an item stolen from a good citizen of the town, for example.
Let's say you have 5 houses to steal from....great.  Just as long as there is an item in there that you specifically need for a task someone else has given you.  Obviously the darker side of this would be the Thieve's Guild to tell you to steal a family heirloom from little ole Betsy Sue's house to prove your worth.  But to just have 10+ houses to steal from just to get gold or something you're just going to sell would be very Morrowindish to me.  The hero needs to focus on helping the community and not his personal gains.  I also don't think money is the catch-all to winning a QFG adventure.
Like I said, forgive me for arguing.  I may be wrong or I may have a decent point.  I just don't want Hero7 to stray from resembling QFG.  QFG was one of the greatest series ever and the reason why it was is because the Coles made it to be good and not to sell, but massive sales would've been nice.
Okay......go easy on me.  Let the flaming begin.

So I'm guessing the message in your sig comes from personal experience.

Mine does.
Who me?
Ummmm....where did I get that phrase?Huh
*starts neuralnet search*
Oh yeah....my high school Chemistry teach used to say that alot.  Funny guy.  Sometimes we all wondered if he did have his frontal lobe removed.  He had a lazy eye and he used that for great material.  We spent more time laughing our butts off than actually learning.  And we set alot of stuff on fire!!!

Quick vote:  Who would be interested in playing Nordock (NWN's Module) with a Hero6 party?
We get our internet service back tonight (hopefully).  I would be more than willing to tag along if you can put up with a mega-noob.  Just let me know what I need to do to get started and where I can find the mod.
41  The Hero6 Project / Offtopic Mayhem / Free MMO's on: September 07, 2005, 11:09:54 AM
Heh, I had NWN (no expansions) back in 2003 I think.  I just got to my ship and bought a laptop so I can play in berthing.  NWN was one of the first games I bought and I enjoyed the bejeezuz out of it.  Unfortunately, I had no internet on the ship and I lent the game to a 'shipmate' (I say that in a negative way, and fellow sailors would understand what I mean) and never got it back.
I got to chapter 2 and was never able to continue.
I bought NWN platinum in hopes that I can get involved again.  I started with a wizard this time and I'm having a hard time getting use to the magic system.  When I was growing up, I wanted to play D&D but nobody around me played so I never had the chance.  Plus I grew up in the Bible Belt and D&D=Satan.
So yeah, learning the magic system of D&D is new to me.
If I can't get used to it by chapter 2 then I'll probably revert back to Fighter, or try ranger or rogue.  I'd hate to do it because I'm usually Wizard all the way in RPGs.

Captivus,
That's really good work!  Needless to say I'm jealous of your skills.  I really wish I never put down drawing.

I just got NWN Platinum last night.  However, I won't have internet at home 'til Thursday (we just moved).  Lemme know how I can find you guys and I'd be more than thrilled to adventure with you folks.

Dang Brits.  Always claiming.  I claim that I'm not a dolt, just someone who's having too much to drink.
Do you have a flag?

Well, both Sean Connery and John Rhys-Davies are British.
I thought Sean Connery was Scottish, who play a Spanish immortal in Highlander.  That casting always got on my nerves.
