Playing WC3 is on my "to-do" list. Right after...

Killing all the Gold Skullspiderthings.
Beating Lemmings.
Finishing my Jazz Jackrabbit 2 level.
Beating Adventure with one life on Very Hard.
Finding another book to read.
NOT getting sidetracked while doing the things on my li- Is that the Ice Cream Truck I hear?

I'd ask what everyone's favourite race is in the game, but I think I already know the answer. :P

I haven't played it in a while(and don't own the expansion), but I plan to start playing it again later.

P.S. Night Elves RULE! : P

*googles*
Yep, that's it. B)

I won't be playing it(I don't have broadband, and can't afford the costs). :(

WoW looks cool, but I kind of lost interest in MMORPGS after Graal. That, and the cost. :-/

I've heard that you can only play world of warcraft online (doesn't cater for lan) and that you're also charged a monthly fee (on top of buying the game).  Is this true?   :(

Title: Warcraft3
Post by: Louisiana Night on November 12, 2004, 01:23:33 AM
If I remember correctly, it's $80 for the game(don't know how many months free), and then somewhere over $10 a month afterwards.

EDIT
Exact costs are...

game=can't find the price(you get one month free)

monthly fee=$15(per month)
three month fee=$13.99(per month)
six month fee= $12.99(per month)
Price changes depending on how many months you buy.

Another thing about WoW is that you can only play on the server you're allocated, meaning that I can't play with people from Europe, the US or Australia if I'm put in a Korean server.  Fun.

Awww...  unfair!

Unfortunately, considering the monthly payments and the fact that you can only play WoW online (no lan options), I think I'll be sticking to NWN's for the time being.

I can't wait for WOW to come out I think i'll be playing as undead or orc, that really sucks that you get allociated a server. There were some people developing a emulator server for the beta game I think, tho recently blizzard's been putting there foot down on them.

Edit: after watching that video im not to sure any more LOL.

I too will be playing some WoW as the undead.  if you wan't, i'll let you be my sidekick.  I will stand in the back and cast magic (and dance a little too!) while you go attack the monsters.

PS.  My roomate said that it is untrue that you are assigned a server.  You're just not allowed to connect to servers outside of the country.

My sister says that your room mate is wrong.

Hmm, I was picturing you more of a roadie more than a sidekick :)  in which case, you'd have to get the beer, and bring back some for me too...

Swift:  that link just re-stated what my roomate claims. Look:

"Will you be restricting North America based on region, also?

As with Europe and Asia, North American players will be restricted to North American servers. Because there are two locations to service players in North America, we will recommend that players there connect to the North American server that is closest to their particular home region for the optimum online experience. "

So they only recommend a local server, but don't enforce it.  They only enforce regions.  This is consistant with the current beta which allows you to connect to any server in any time zone in the states.  In fact, I have 5 characters created in all different zones.  Considering that the game will be released in less than a week, I doubt they will change this.

Sucks that I can't play with my friends in Canada though :(

The beta has been fun so far.  I made friends with 4 people in less than 2 days.  We hang out and do quests together :).  It's wierd actually.  This is my first MMO experience.  I thought it would be boring, but I prefer it to most other games.

A roadie? does that mean we follow you around, help out in battles ect... *pours himself a beer and drinks it* I'll have to think about that im not used to being the one getting beer.

Im not even sure if wow is coming to New Zealand and if so what region would be allociated to us most likely asia I think.

Title: Warcraft3
Post by: Swift on November 18, 2004, 07:37:41 AM
I didn't mean specific servers. I meant servers in the region that you're restricted to. Also,

Quote

is not true, since not all countries have servers, and places like Europe are not countries.

It's supposed to be released in New Zealand, at the same time as US and Australia(I think it's in their FAQ somewhere).

:)  Now you're trying to get me on semantics.  In my quote I said "the country": referring to THE country, or the USA to be precise ;).  In that case, what I said is true. :P  I guess I gotta stop assuming that everyone lives in america like they should be.

Though New Zealand wouldn't be bad I guess.  But I tell ya what, it will greatly suck not having a roadie.  Maybe swift could be my roadie.  You live in america right? RIGHT??   Maybe I will bring the beer, but don't expect anything else!

Now would I be complaining about the servers if I lived in America? I live in the Asia region. Singapore, to be precise, and no, it's not in China. So, as much as I would like to be your roadie, Phat, I can't. :(

If WOW comes here and if im correct and NZ is in the Asia zone then maybe Swift you could me my roadie, or would it be the other way around. In any case some one should explain the meaning of 'roadie' to me because all I've got is educated gueses.

p.s. Swift your from singapore I would have never guessed.

I listened to your MP3(or whatever format it was) in the AGDI forums a while back.

Your accent had me confused(I decided you had a British accent, with a very unique voice). :P

Didn't think about Singapore :embarrassedsmiley:

You don't have to fool the servers on your location. You just need a US billing address to play on a US server.

I'm not sure of the other methods of getting onto the regional server you want. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Title: Warcraft3

Here's all I could find. :-\

Quote
worldofwar.de: There is a rumor that players will only be able to play on the servers that are located next to them. For example European players would not be able to play on US servers. Can you confirm this?

Chris Sigaty: Yes, this is true. We will have the regions separated, for example US players on US servers and European players on European players. We will have regional support teams for online support, ingame support and offline support. This is because of language and time. We want to give the best support at primary playtime. If the European players play on US servers this cannot be granted. Another reason is that we want the Live Team to do regional events, let's say something like the Oktoberfest. Also the latency plays a certain role. However there will always be people who want to play on a server which is no located next to them because of their guild or something like that. At a certain point after release we will give those players the opportunity to play on those servers.

worldofwar.de: Can the EU play on US servers after the game hits the shelves in US until the game is released in EU?

Chris Sigaty: No. But if they have a opportunity to use a US billing method and have someone who lives in the US, we cannot stop them from buying an US account.

Thanks LN. It's times like this that makes me wish I can polymorph the entire Blizzard team for making such evil restrictions.

Interestingly a friend of ours purchased WoW on Monday this week and he's only be able to access the US servers (we live in Australia).  On Monday the lag was fine, however it seems that quite a few people must have logged in on Tuesday, making game play unbareable.  To his understanding, the european servers aren't going to be up until the beginning of next year.
