As I have stated before, unless you need a kid who sounds like he's got a mouse squeaking the english language, I doubt I'd be handy.

well, I might, but for a few reasons:

1) I'm paranoid

2)I have no clue what my voice actually sounds like

3)I have no recording equipment

Title: Would you audition...

You can buy a mic for about $10 at your local computer store :)

Title: Would you audition...

And you can download free legit recording software, if you know where to look.

Title: Would you audition...

no, I don't

besides, I have no clue if I'll be allowed to load any software on this computer

Title: Would you audition...

Well, if the time comes, we might google up some free recording softwares to use and link them here.

Well with this much support, there might not be a voice pack :P

Quite true.

Go ask AGDI if they want to audition for voiceyness.

Title: Would you audition...

If there is such a contest held, the news will be posted in other forums like AGDI. That I can assure you.

However Corsair, wouldn't you love to have your name in the Hero6 credits?  ^_^

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Ignus_Draconus on March 06, 2005, 02:49:09 AM
I'd rather have my name on the Special Thanks list in a marketed game

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Corsair5 on March 06, 2005, 03:49:49 AM
I never read the credits anyway.

Title: Would you audition...

I only read them in cases like the warcraft games:

"the kitchen sink and you for reading this"

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 05:26:01 AM
If we do have such a competition, I urge everyone to try it out. You'll never know if your voice happens to be the one we're looking for. And voice acting is pretty fun, especially when you try to vary your voice.

Title: Would you audition...

I'll try if I can, but I make no promises

Heck yeah, I'd love to have my voice put in a game. Even it is only for, like, two lines...

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Swift on March 06, 2005, 06:16:22 AM
Yup, it'll be fun hearing your voice in the game, and pointing that out to your friends.

A: "Listen! That's me!"
B: "That's you?!"
A: *nods* :D "Whatcha think?"
B:  :waterdrop:     "Errrr.... very good! Yeah, that's the word! Anyway..."

Now for the folks who would like to consider doing voices but have no recording software, fear not! I have found the software to answer to all your needs, and it's free!

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Raito on March 25, 2005, 04:46:41 PM
Is it of good quality? I mean, any nasty quality losses?

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Swift on March 25, 2005, 04:53:37 PM
I just tested it earlier, and I think it's pretty good for a free recording software. I wouldn't know much about loss of quality as I don't really have sensitive ears, but it has the ability to edit recordings, like removing background noise, deleting awkward silence gaps, etc. It can also export in mp3 and ogg. (Just the ability to remove background noise alone makes it worth downloading, imo). I suggest you give it a try and see if you like its features.

Title: Would you audition...

I would audition. I'll have my name in the credits one way or another, boys and girls!

Just to reiterate a point. There isn't any plan for a voicepack at this stage, though there might be plans for one after the game gets released, depending on the feasibility and the interest. Also, there will be pretty girls in this game. Greenleaf is not the only babe around here.

Ah, you must live out West or something. In the South, we have to watch our backs, or else we get kidnapped in the night to work on the secret moonshine stills of the Georgian woodlands.

<_<
>_>

OK, ok, yeah, there's nothing dangerous here except the occassional rabbid squirel.

Topics? What's a topic? *Notices Swift glaring at him.* OH! RIGHT! YEAH! NOT DOING ANYTHING SWIFT! BACK ON THE TOPIC!

I WOULD AUDITION! YAHYAHYAH!

But, seriously, there's another method we could do the auditioning then recording then sending it to you guys. We could use a voicechat system like TeamSpeak or Ventrilo to do it.

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Swift on May 25, 2005, 04:01:14 PM
One more off-topic tangent and all the off-topic posts will be deleted in this thread.

As for this voicechat system idea, it's interesting though I don't really think it'll be used if we do have an audition, simply because the people in charge will need something to refer to in order to properly cast people.

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Ignus_Draconus on May 25, 2005, 07:52:54 PM
what, the voice chat doesn't have something like the chatroom message logger?

PS-swift, I think you enjoy removing our posts just a little bit too much

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Swift on May 26, 2005, 01:04:23 AM
On the contrary, Ignus, it's a tiring procedure, especially if there are several posts to remove. There really is nothing fun about deleting posts, so don't make my job any more difficult than it already is.

As for chatroom loggers, it won't help much. It is far easier to refer to individual sound clips for auditions rather than to play through everything in a chat log just to hear a specific part.

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Silverbolt on May 26, 2005, 10:16:55 AM
Well, if it *is* going to have a voice pack, I would suggest not using crappy microphones like the one I have right here...

I realise this isn't going to be made in a high tech studio, but...well, you get my point. Look at the KQ2 remake by AGDInteractive. The voice-acting was great, but they sounded just a tad artificial...

PS, about deleting posts...I can relate to that...it sucks

Anyway, what kind of microphones would be good? Anyone have any recomendations?

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Swift on May 27, 2005, 07:08:27 AM
I think (though I'm not sure on this point) that it doesn't really matter how good your microphone is. What's more important is the software you use, because if your software is incapable of removing background noise, then having a good mic is useless because no matter how hard you try to record it, you'll still pick up some background noise. Also,  to quote Brassfire,

Quote
Also, if you're using the mic input, use the line-in instead if your soundcard has a line-in. The mic input is usually lower quality, and can fool you into thinking it's the mic that's bad. It's just for internet voice, really, whereas the line-in is for real recording of stuff.

Two free recording softwares you can use are Goldwave (http://www.goldwave.com/) and Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/)

Well, it was semi-on-topic...

However, while the recording quality is important, you need quality voices first.

I would recommend Trey Parker and Matt Stone  :D

Ah, but don't they cost a little something called "money"? Something in short supply for a free game?

I think it would be time to send some informal auditions. Maybe send some short scripts out...  :D

Mouse Commandos are coming into your room, Iggy.

The advantages to using a chat system would be that it is convienient for both recorded and recorder because for one, the recorded doesn't have to do the sending and stuff. Also, it would allow for rapid discusion between whoever will be deciding whether his or her voice is applicable.

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Paladin0707077 on May 30, 2005, 03:29:30 AM
Ah, but how would you set it up so that it is only one-on-one? More then one at a time would, of course, become garbled.

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Corsair5 on May 30, 2005, 03:44:41 AM
Taking turns. It works everywhere ELSE in the world, why not in there?

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Swift on May 30, 2005, 05:26:14 AM
Again, a chat system will not be suitable in this case. You want individual files for specific voices and characters, and one line per file, something which a chat system cannot differentiate on its own. Furthermore, the recording quality in a chat system will be inferior than that of the recording software, since it records background noises as well. If we're really going to have an audition, the team would prefer that the cast be able to record their files of a suitable quality to minimize editing. It would take far too much work to edit from the chat system.

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Paladin0707077 on May 31, 2005, 06:39:32 AM
Well, then, they'll need to release spec requirements in order to tell auitioners what they need to put it together. Like what kind of program, what format to save the files as, how long, etc.

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: EvilSandwich on July 06, 2005, 04:01:45 AM
I am both willing and able to audition for the voice pack (That is, if you decide to include one). I have a pretty decent sound set up on my system. As for my voice, I have a nice, smooth baritone which would be best suited for characters which you want to give uber-serious personalities and/or straightmen if your game is has a more funny tone. I can also pull off a gameshow host/sleazy car saleman type character pretty well or just about any kind weasely-sounding characters really.

But as far as accents are concerned... not so much...  -_-;

PS- I also wouldn't mind trying out for the HotIK sequel if you guys decide that it's worth making. ;P

Title: Would you audition...

The regular recording software that comes with Windows works fine for this, provided you are in a quiet, controlled environment. I have used it to create audition files for all sorts of programs including Honor Band and University, with my trumpeting. I have also used it to impress my friends! If you would like some files of the quality of it, I would be happy to email them to you, or send them over a messenging service.

I use the mic that came with the computer, too, so don't expect it to be one of those billion dollar studio recording mics either.

Microsoft is amazingly efficient and high quality... I don't understand why so many people dislike Windows besides, y'know the crashing. But Mac's have worse problems in my experience.

Anyways, in short: For a quieter environment (And I mean, I get yelled at and yell at other people in my house... It's kind of our form of communication, and the mic is fine with the recording software), if you have a Dell bought computer or something along those lines that came with a microphone, it will be fine enough.

Of course, remember, like Brassie said, to hook it into the Line In slot, rather than the mic slot, or you'll get that scratchie recorded sound. Then again, I managed to record another file with this and it works fine as well.

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Ignus_Draconus on July 08, 2005, 05:28:58 PM
so it's the method of input and not the microphone! There's a plot here somewhere.

really though, It's looking more and more plausible for a guy like me to contribute to this voice file thing. provided I can get a hold of a more modern computer than the one I'm on now.

If you need a creepy sounding evil master, I'm your man.
If you need a villager, I'm your man.
And if you need a funny Irish lerpecaun, I'm your man.
I can do a wide variety of voices, so if you guys want me to, just pm me.

Judging by how many people said they'd audition in the poll, I think there wouldn't be that much shortage for voices.

Title: Would you audition...
Post by: Ignus_Draconus on July 10, 2005, 02:08:16 AM
that depends entirely on the number of characters

Title: Would you audition...

If you have 20 people that can do Irish accents, that doesn't really help, now does it?

Alright, you asked for it ;)

Imagine two sailors singing, one singing right over the other. It's a bit bawdy, but it manages to be picaresque without being vulgar.  Of course, my perceptions of it may be different than the forum admins, and if they find this content objectionable I understand if it can be censored.

Imagine a dockside scene, two sailors singing, bewildering the hero.

Sailor 1:There was a young sailor
Who looked through the glass,
And spied a fair mermaid
With scales on her--

Sailor 2: island
Where seagulls
Fly over their nests
She combed the long hair
That hung over her

Sailor 1:-- shoulders
And caused her
To tickle and itch.
The sailor cried out
"There's a beautiful

Sailor 2: --mermaid,"
A-sitting out
There on the rocks,
The crew came around
A-grabbing their--

Sailor 1: glasses
And crowded four deep
To the rail,
All eager to share
In this fine piece of

Sailor 2:--- news,
Which the captain soon
Heard from the watch.
He tied down the wheel
And he reached for his

Sailor 1:--- crackers
And cheese which
He kept near the door.
In case he might someday
Encounter a

Sailor 2:---mermaid.
He knew he must
Use all his wits
Crying "Throw out a line.
We'll lasso her

Sailor 1:--- flippers."
And then we will
Certainly find
If mermaids are better
Before or be--

Sailor 2: brave
My good fellows."
The captain then said.
"With fortune we'll break
Through her mermaiden head-

Sailor 1:-ing to starboard
They tacked with dispatch.
And caught that fair mermaid
Just under her--

Sailor 2: elbows
And hustled her
Down below decks,
And each took a turn
At her feminine

Sailor 1: setting
Her free at the end
Of the farce,
She splashed in the waves,
Falling flat on her

Sailor 2: after
A while one man
Noticed some scabs,
Soon they broke out with the

Sailor 1: pox
And the scratching
With fury,
Cursing with spleen,
This song may be dull

Sailor 1 & 2: But it's certainly clean!

"A sailing round the coast of high Barbary"

Nothing like a good ol' pirate tune...I'm laughing because we did this back in my old high school chamber choir...as for voice audtions come on, who wouldnt want to give it a try?    If 2-bit actors can get voice parts in professionally produced video games and yet still butcher their lines, what's the big deal about an amatuer doing it?  On that note give me a line (the goofier the better, in line with the whole feel of the QFG series :-P), and I'd do my best to ham it up.  Or not, but still I gotta say that it's nice to see a good community of people ressurecting a concept that some suit decided was dead.  I remember playing QFG 1 on my 286, and being awed by it.  It's a shame that so few games I've played between now and then have given me anything near to that visceral reaction of sheer joy.  Anyway enough ranting, but yes, of course I'd lay down a fast voice track for the good of the people ; as I've already said, who wouldn't?

P.S.  Oh, and great innuendo in that song.  I found myself humming it in my head to get the pace of the joke :-P

Well as dead as this topic seems I'd like to add some input. I am from sunny South Africa so if by any chance someone from 'South Fricana' (check the qfg3 guide) happens to be in the game, I'm your man. I can also do a handful of accents and have a good sound card etc so quality would not be too shabby either.

If you're gonna do a speech pack do it right - please. There's nothing worse than lame voices in an otherwise good game, they detract from the overall atmosphere and just lead to people turning them off.

Thanks for your offer. If we ever include voices in the game, we will get good voice talents. Already I know of quite a number of people who can voice act in the adventure community, so that shouldn't be too much of a problem if we do go with the idea.

Definitely. It would be fun to try out, even if I didn't get the part.

Remember. Do it like QFG4 did it, not five.

Was wondering if I could get an e-mail to Saffiru111@hotmail.com if there was auditions.  Yes I am willing to audition, but I would like to have the theme as well as the text when auditioning.
Thanks,
Saffiru111

More than likely, it won't be for a while. The game itself is still in its semi-final stage of production, I think. And the voice pack, if there is one, probably won't be put together until after the game's initial release. As cool as it sounds, I'll need to sit on my hands for a while before I can audition.

Well, I would audition, if there was any appropriate voices for me.

It'd be good to have voice talent in the game. It'd bring it to life more. However, I'd imagine that, in a game like this, there'd be a lot of voices needed. Perhaps too many to be possible...

Not necessarily, I'm sure some of us can pull off multiple roles, I know I can.

Absolutely.  I'd love to.

Haha. Yeah I would, but I wouldn't have very high hopes
