121  The Hero6 Project / Offtopic Mayhem / Someone should make a QFG4 remake on: November 13, 2004, 02:08:19 AM
Totally agree with Phattie.

I am always shocked when I see people who treat abandonware like warez, I can never imagine how someone can hold such a belief.

I think alot of forums just discourage talk of abandonware to cover their asses. Since Pwincess is an admin, she must protect the forum by discouraging abandonware. Smiley

Well I assume they did, but I don't know for sure. Smiley

Lol why is Tierra getting away with QFG2? Maybe Vivendi knows about it, and they feel it isn't a big enough deal?

Dosbox is really looking good these days for some games. However it is very unoptimized, it will make your P4 run like a 486, because a 486 is as fast as a P4 can make Dosbox run! Wink

If it doesn't work as desired, try some of these SCI timer fixes. Time fixes

Only has QFG4CD version though.

Other useful sierra compatibility stuff

Over here you can grab several fixed SCI display drivers that are susposed to outright eliminate timer issues(and give you proper speed animations to boot!).

Thanks for the tech info Phattie. Smiley

I now get what you mean by hybrid 2D/3D adventures. 2D bitmap backgrounds, 3D animated characters.

The problem with true 3D adventures is that to look extremely high quality and run properly, a powerful system would probably be needed. In theory, those same awesome 3D backgrounds can be used as 2D bitmaps without needing a super powerful system. Of course there won't be any rotation or zooming and maybe no special lighting effects.

Of course I don't want to come across like I'm obsessed with visuals, but variety is always nice. So there is nothing wrong with amazing 3D graphics sometimes instead of handpainted stuff.

Actually I thought pre-rendered 2D backgrounds were really high detail 3D backgrounds(not handdrawn or made from scratch in a 2D art program) displayed as 2D backgrounds.

Phats, what do you mean by "hybrid 2d/3d adventure games"? Do you mean 2D adventure games that use 3D backgrounds and animations, but displays them just like regular 2D images?

Well Pwincess, since you didn't know about Hershey bars and chocolates, here is a term that is not so innocent. Wink

Two words: Hershey Highway

No I will not elaborate. Cheesy
129  The Hero6 Project / Offtopic Mayhem / hero6.com is dieing on: October 30, 2004, 03:04:45 AM
Why would Hero6 be moving from hero6.com to hero6.com? Yes I know that's where the forums are, but I don't understand why they are moving in general.

Wouldn't it take a long time to redo Hero6's art in SVGA? An expansion pack is ok though.

Damn this thread is cool, the heroes get honoured! Smiley

My belated hero speech.

I'd like to thank Swift for taking the time to find out information on everyone. I'd like to thank the Hero6 team for starting something big(the booming "make your own adventure game" scene, and their own adventure game).

Unfortunatly, for the rest of this speech I'd prefer to flame rather than praise. Curse all the heroes who have made a mockery out of hero status, by making tons of pointless, spam happy posts. Now high post count no longer signifies a veteran member who has had alot to say, it has been degraded to a highscore for trigger happy post count spammers who have a hard to understand sense of humor. laugh

Holy shiznit! I've been representin' since Oct 2001!  I wonder if I go back even further than that. Well those of you with good memories may find alot constrast between now and my earlier Hero6 days. Smiley

Thank you all and good evening...
